Do you know about the Russian Church records that can be ordered and viewed at any LDS (Mormon) Church FHC?
If you are in the west the chances are good that the films are on permanent loan in your area. They were used quite a bit during Alaska Native Enrollment in the 70's.
Look in your phone book for a FHC or call a church in your area to see where one is.

Hi Everyone,

Kitty was my great aunt. Her sister Margaret Dwyer was my grandmother. Kitty came to visit us once in Indianapolis in the 80's.
I am inferring from the previous post that she dies last year. I am sorry. Can someone confirm? I know my mother Sheryl would like to know.

Thank you,
Elizabeth (Libby) Stroup (Berg).
you have to be a little creative when it comes to older records - many of these people were ordinary "salt of the Earth" types and spelling was'nt high on their list of priorities - usually best to go phonetic - also, to bear in mind is when someone transcribes records what they are reading is, honestly, quite illegible

Rudolph Henry Swarowsky is my sons' great grandfather also. I have a copy of an affidavit signed by Jennie Evelyn Game in 1946 in Houston Texas. In it she is clarifying that she is Rudolph Thomas Swarowsky's half sister and could never have been his wife. I have a copy of a letter from Rudolph Henry Swarowsky to Blanche Stanila-Swarowsky explaining how the Army came to the conclusion that Jennie Evelyn Game was married to Rudolph Thomas Swarowsky in Channelview Texas in 1940. There are 3 Texas birth certificates of Reddell children, 2 girls and 1 boy, with Jennie Evelyn Game as the mother. There is a Texas death certificate for Jennie Reid in 1975 it lists her parents as Nellie Boswell and Charles Game. The informant is her son William Reddell.

Wilma Finlay --Obituary

The News Guard, Lincoln City, OR 97367
December 4, 2012

Wilma Finlay

Wilma Finlay died on Monday, Nov. 12, at Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center in Kodiak. She was 100 years old.

Wilma was born June 11, 1912, in Kooskia, Idaho, to John Franklin Brown and Pearl Evelyn Makinster. She was the first daughter and fourth child of 10 born to the couple. As a child, Wilma traveled from Idaho to Pennsylvania and back to California and Oregon with her family as a migrant worker. At age 18, she married Fred Wintermantel in Oregon, and they began building their own farm. At age 19, Wilma had a baby girl, Betty. Wilma became a widow at age 20 when Fred succumbed to a flu epidemic after being ill for only two weeks.

Wilma worked hard to survive and provide for her baby. Five years passed, and on May 18, 1938, she married Lawrence Finlay, a local farmer who raised mink and fox. They married in Talbot, Ore., and remained married until Lawrence’s death in 1994. During their time in Oregon, they added two more boys, David and Dale, to the family.

Wilma always felt that the Lord had been with her and that she always had known God, so when her husband Lawrence went forward in a Sunday evening service to declare his decision for Christ that he had made two weeks earlier, she went forward with him and dedicated her life to the Lord. This was under the ministry of the Christian and Missionary Alliance church pastor, Rev. Rogers R. Irwin, at the Talbot Community Church.

In 1962, Wilma and Lawrence moved to Alaska to homestead in the Matanuska Valley and raise potatoes. After a year, they moved to Homer to fish crab, and they moved to Kodiak a year later. Wilma took on many jobs in Kodiak, including town seamstress, director of activities for the Kodiak Senior Center, church secretary at Kodiak Bible Chapel and boarding high school students from Kodiak Island villages. She was involved in many volunteer activities such as 4-H, and also helped to establish the first Christian Women’s Club in Kodiak. She loved to fish the road system in Kodiak during the silver salmon run. Wilma was also a 20-year survivor of breast cancer. To Wilma, her family was her priority. She loved cooking, sewing, crocheting, reading, entertaining, playing with her grandchildren and a good game of Scrabble.

Wilma Finlay was many things to many people—a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, teacher, confidant, inspiration, leader. Whatever she did, she did with great strength, gusto, laughter and love. Wilma stated that she “never wanted to be bored, but always wanted to keep busy,” and that may be the secret of her longevity for 100 years.

She is survived by her sister Naomi Hill of Albany, Ore.; children Betty (Willie) Heinrichs of Puyallup, Wash., David (Freda) Finlay of Eagle River, Dale (Jan) Finlay of Kodiak; grandchildren Robin (Barb) Heinrichs of Roy, Wash., Kim (Brad) Goetz of Puyallup, Wash., Randy (Sangetta) Heinrichs of Riverbank, Calif., Todd (Kara) Heinrichs of Fife, Wash.; great-grandchildren Katrina (Marcus) Stewart of Kodiak, John (Sheridan) Heinrichs of North Pole, Kim Heinrichs of Anchorage, Caleb Heinrichs of Kodiak, Kristin (Brian) Jones of Kent, Wash., Laurel (Billy) Donkervoet of Washington, Amanda and Emma Heinrichs of Riverbank, Calif., Gabriel and Anneleise Heinrichs of Fife, Wash.; great-great-grandchildren: Jonah and Mia Stewart of Kodiak, Kayla, Shawn, and Ethan Heinrichs of North Pole, Johnny Heinrichs of Kodiak, Sierra, Jayce, and Jacoby Jones of Kent, Wash., Peter Donkervoet of Washington; and many nieces and nephews and beloved friends.

A funeral and interment have been held.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Gideon’s International at PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214 or online at www.gideons.org/HowYouCanHelp/Give.

Arrangements were through the Howell-Edwards-Doerkson Funeral Home in Salem, Ore.

Hi,

There isn't anything for him in Ancestry and FamilySearch.org.
However, Alaska releases hardly any vital record information. It is surprizing though that he doesn't appear in the Censuses.

Death records are sealed for 50 years after the date unless you are family members or their legal representative. For additional information about ordering a copy of his death certificate and the restructions go to http://genealogy.about.com/od/vital_records/p/alaska.htm.

Do you know the names, birth places and dates of his wife and children? I might be able to find him in the Census records with that info. Successful Searching!

I too am interested in someone who died while living in this orphanage. Her name was Emily Maude Game. She is rumored to have died around 1920. I can't remember her exact age off the top of my head, but I beleive she was less than ten. Her brother William was also in the orphanage. Where would I find more information on the Afogank Common Cemetery?

My grandfather, Walter Shuravloff was married twice. First to Anastalia Ponfilov and they had many children, Larry Crawford included. His wife, from what I understand became ill and my grandmother was hired to take care of the children and household, he then married her after his first wife died, and had many children together. What the first group of children did not like was that my grandfather named his second group of children the same as most of his first group of children. But that was the custom of the day. What I had understood was that both Larry and Walter changed their names to Crawford to join the military service, as they did not want be harassed for having a Russian last name.

I have a copy of Jennie Game's birth certificate. I have an affidavit from 1947 stating her mother is Nellie Boswell Game. I find Jennie Game as mother on 3 Texas birth certificates to Reddell children. I have sent off for a copy of a SS application for a Jennie Reddell that died in Washington state in 1994. I will share the information when I get it back, it usually takes a month or so. There are family trees that have Jennie Game Reddell dying in Munday Texas in 1975. That is not Jennie Game Reddell. That is Jennie Mae Reddell, she lived in Texas her entire
life. There is a family tree on line that includes her.

There are Texas Birth records With Jennie Game as the mother for three Reddell children two girls and a boy. The boy was a Houston Texas fireman . I have been in contact with a lady that says Jennie Game was her mother in law. So did Nellie take off with Emily who changed her name to Jennie? I have an affidavit from Jenny Evelyn Game stating she is the half sister to Rudolph Thomas Swarowsky, that they have the same mother,Nellie Boswell Game
