thank you for your help and input
the problem with this grandmother is she gave different family members different information. the census says her father was irish, but she always said she was russian and spoke russian. her birthday was 'changeable' and none of us know what year she was born in. her gravestone says 1899, but then she would have been only 12 when her son was born. she said she knew nothing about her birth family and only remembered the orphanage.
we didn't know she went by the name of Polly until we saw the census information, which had all the other members' names correct. she also spelled Mabel as Mable sometimes.
also, not being able to find any divorce records from Frank or marriage records to Grant, we suspect she just left her first husband and pretended to marry my grandfather which is why their anniversary date was also 'changeable' from year to year.
my tree on ancestry.com is a compilation of what she told various family members and we don't know what is correct and what is not (for example we don't really know that Molly died in Florida, her son just assumes it)
thanks again for your help!
