Thank you for the obituary. I searched further and found the DOD was 1983. Kristy was my half-sister and I wanted to know more about her. With this more complete information I should be able to get a death cert. I appreciate your taking time to search this out.

I don't find her listed in the court house records of deaths in Cordova and I don't have her obit on file. Could she have been transported to an Anchorage hospital and died in Anchorage? Can you narrow down the time of death and how she died? Are you positive she died in 1980? The name is familiar to me but I came to Cordova in 1982. There was a rash of suicides in 1985 and I don't know if I'm confusing her with one of those girls.

I am requesting a search of Cordova Newspaper for a certain obituary.
The name is Kristy Hicks. She died in 1980 in Cordova. Her spouse's name would be Rick Hicks and 2 children Karla and Jacob. Her maiden name was Waldrop.
Thanks for any effort.

Margaret.

The 1910 census lists only Alexander, no wife with him. At the time Cordova was a brand new town with only a few streets. The railroad men would have lived together in bunkhouses at the rail yard. If his wife was here in 1915, he must have sent for her and they probably lived in a boarding room. Almost all of the businesses had rooms to let on the third floors.

We did not have "obits" as we know them today but here is the notice of his death in the Cordova Daily Time 1/20/15 and a funeral notice in the 1/22/15 issue:

A.N. Hayes dies at His Home Today
A.N. Hayes, master car builder for the Copper River & Northwestern Railway died at his home this morning after an illness of about two weeks.
Mr Hayes was born at Des Moines, Iowa May 14, 1850 and was therefore 64 years of age. He is survived by his wife, who resides in Cordova, a daughter residing in Lafayette, IN and two sons, one of whom resides in Tacoma, Wash and the other at St. Paul, Minn. He also has one brother who resides at Bonner Springs, Kan. (note this may be Donner - hard to read).
For a number of years he was master car foreman for the Chicago, Great Western Railway and later went to Seattle where he held a responsible position with the Seattle Car & Foundry Co coming from that place to Cordova.
Mr Hayes was a Mason being a member of St. Paul Lodge, No. 3 F&M of St. Paul, Minn. Mr Hayes came to Cordova in 1909, accepting the position which he has since retained.
During his residence here he has gained a wide circle of friends who admired him for his many sterling qualities, and who will sincerely mourn his loss. Among his fellow employees he was universally esteemed. An expert mechanic, always kindly and accommodating, those associated with him in his work will sorely miss his presence among them.
Mr. Hayes has long been connected with the transportation business.

Funeral notice
Friends and brothers of Alexander N. Hayes will have the opportunity of viewing his earthly form for the last time at Lambert's Undertaking Parlor on Saturday the 23rd from one o'clock to 2:30 o'clock PM.
All Masons are notified to attend at the Masonic Hall at 2 o'clock PM sharp for the purpose of rendering to him our last sad service.
Mt McKinley Lodge No 183 F&AM
By Bartley Howard, W.M.
---------

If you're not familiar with Cordova, our town was founded on May 1, 1908 when Mike Heney started the CR&NW Railway to build a railroad from our deep water harbor to the Kennicott Mines at McCarthy. Gold, silver, and copper ore was transported over the railroad and loaded onto ships that carried it to smelters in Washington. The railway was abandoned in 1933 and the US Army took over the railroad equipment during WWII in order to build the airport 12 miles from town. The tracks past that point were removed and sent to the smelters and a roadbed was built over the old railbed. So you can see why Mr. Hayes was a valued member of our community during his years here.

I hope this helps you. It's unfortunate that the notice did not give the names of his family.

Alexander N. Hayes died in Cordova, on Jan 20, 1915. Is it possible to look up an obituary for him? He listed his home as Seattle. I was hoping the obit, if it exists, might give me a clue as to what his occupation might have been.

Please Help!!! I am desperately trying to locate my father, ANGEL GUADALUPE CORDOVA. I live along the Gulf Coast area but we lived in Cameron County - Rio Hondo area at that time. I've been looking for him for many years and found out that he had come knocking on our door when I was young but was sent away by my grandmother Garza-Trevino, now deceased. I haven't seen him since the late 1950's and would love to finally talk to him so that he can meet his grandchildren. Any type of information would be greatly appreciated.

Maria Guadalupe Cordova

I have their obits which say they were married in Cordova in April 1945. Email me and I'll send you copies of their obits and headstone. I'll look at the April '45 paper to see if their wedding was noted but give me a few days to do that.

Hello...I don't know how much I can help as I found this post in doing a search for my sister whom I have lost contact with in the past few months. Her name is Virginia Brizgaloff.
Maggie is her aunt. Maggie lives somewhere around here in Seattle. Virginia's father was Nick Brizgaloff and I believe he passed away recently in Anchorage. Julie DeMott was a cousin. She lived in Bellingham and was married to Dan DeMott. She died 12/23/01. Julia was a Barnes. She has 3 kids I think. My sister knows much more of this as she lived with her.
Anyway...most of us were born in or around Cordova, Alaska. I can get you the address for the Russian Orthodox church there.
Our mom lives in Cordova still and might be able to fill in many more blanks that I have no idea about.
I am however curious as to why you are researching this information.
Sincerely,
Viola Dickson

Read your message......is this the only info you could find on the name BRIZGALOFF? I've found them myself VERY hard to find or track down....how would I contact the Omofor Midnight Sun for prehaps more info? Sent you an e-mail, don't know if it went thru. Thank you for your reply, I keep floundering about but I know there has to be SOMETHING somewhere about this family. Search, search, I guess that is the only way.........By the way, do you have an address on the Russian Orthodox Church in and around Cook Inlet? Others have told me I might find something there but even they didn't know exactly how to get ahold of them. Stefan "Steve" I THINK is a brother of the cousins I've found but they don't seem to know too much or else aren't talking. They are Elfrida, Margaret (Maggie) and Dora nee BRIZGALOFF. There is a marriage record from Calif for Maggie Brizgaloff Fennell, circa 1964. Olga Jean BRIZGALOFF was married to a Johnny Bigioli who passed away circa 1998 (Dec) in Old Harbor, AK. Another cousin was a Julia Barnes DeGroot or De something who passed away just in the past couple of months in Bellingham WA. She was well known in the fishing community. Sorry I'm so sketchy, this whole family seems to be coming along in little bits and pieces.

Dear GayDell,
My name is Valerie, I have been trying and trying to gather info about the Brizgaloff family. It has been difficult as no one seems to want to talk, except Don. If you have some information I would sure like to know. Good, bad, or just gossip, it dosen't matter - as long as it adds to the sketchy picture I have of my Mother's family. It's been 15+ years I've been trying to track down this family and every time I turn around it's a brick wall and I know not why. My cousins gave me pictures of her (Olga Jean) but I want to know more.
Who she was, who she could have been, who did she marry and move to Juneau with???
What was her connection with Johnny Bigioli???
Why do I have a bunch of pictures of her with Johnny?
Why can't I find a connection on public records -
Is there a obit for her (I was told she passed in the middle 60's).
Who were her and Fred's parents?
WHERE CAN THOSE RECORDS BE FOUND????????????
The records show she and Uncle Fred lived with Great Aunt Anne Chemnunsicy (or something like that)
After that there is no record of her anywhere.

SHE HAD TO BE LISTED SOMEWHERE WHEN I WAS BORN, don't you think??????????

I would appreciate ANY info you might have on this elusive relative.

Everytime I ask ANYONE - I get the run around - ask this person - ask THAT person - NO ONE wants to answer my questions - just try and pass them off to someone else. And of course Someone Else never shows up.

All I want is a straight forward answer as to how all these Brizgaloff's are related, why they are, and who birthed who and who the parents are.

And who birthed me - Olga of course, but WHO was Daddy.

There was talk about gang rape, just plain rape. Nothing that probably got into papers but just the same, she had a kid. And there were insunitions.

Aside from that I want to know if you know ANYTHING about this family name. Good, bad or whatever.

Aloha,
Valerie
To GayDell, Hi, I am Valerie, I have been searching many a moon now for any one connected to or related to the Brizgaloff's. My uncle is Fred Brizgaloff, he was my mother's brother. Her name was Olga Jean. I have very little info on anyone, your name here is new to me so I am hoping maybe we can communicate? My e-mail has changed, Viola has it if you are interested in writing. I hear from Maggie once in awhile but she has moved across the pond (gig harbor I think) Don Poling sent me some info quite awhile ago, also some pictures of Maggie and sisters when they were in grade school. I have no memory of Cordova as I was adopted quite young. But do have pictures of Olga, they say I look just like her. Hoping to hear from you, Aloha, Valerie
