Hi Serkku, years later. Diamond X was a cannery, he, Arsenio, prbly was working on the fish lines on a summer job. Its quite possible he's the one, because that name can't be found ne where else. Only problem is we have 10 yr census. Its possible he frequented the canneries yearly. Would like to find more, just don't know where to turn to next.

Inez,
My Pop, Matt Sause, (who is sitting in front of the group) had been living in Seattle since the early 1940's, married in July 1947 and was working in Naknek, Alaska about the time that my brother was born in Seattle in June 1948. I assume it was where a job was offered to him. Pop said it was a fish cannery and they ate fish 3 times a day, (and throughout the rest of his life, he did not eat fish). I don't think he worked there very long, as he was in Seattle by the fall of 1948. We were hoping that someone recognized persons in the group and could tell us more. Pop passed away in 2000, at age 89.
Thank you for your help. Did you post the photo on a rootsweb site?

Interesting information. I'll check it out with the children.

Annie, his wife, was born 19 Oct 1893 in Ugashik and died/buried in King Salmon Creek, Koggiung on 17 Nov 1927. She had a daughter named Mary Arasinia on 23 Jun 1910, according to Mary's death records Rumor is Mary was his step child, but we have no proof who her father is, just proof of her name by marriage records. And proof of Annie's husband as "Unknown Arasinia".

Can you give me a general idea of the dates you're talking about?

Might the surname be ARSENIO? I find a Julian ARSENIO in 1910 census for Bristol Bay (for a place or concern called Diamond X), age 29, born January 1881 per the census form. He was born in the Phillippines, came to Alaska in 1904, in 1910 was still classified an alien for purposes of immigration. He, like every other person on the census page (many nationalities represented), is a laborer, but for doing exactly what, I can't tell because as usual some census worker has scribbled something over the top of the entry.

I find nothing to tie him to your maternal grandmother's family, except the similarity of surnames.

I don't find Ernst Holmqvist, but I find a Fred Holmquist in the 1910 census for Bristol Bay.

-- Mel
