The Find-a-grave record:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=ki...;

I would suggest contacting with the above links prior to wasting ANY funds on a death certificate from Alaska. It wouldn't tell you what you want to know...

Your posting involves a company/corporation where a person was employed sometime between 1943 and 1947, which may or may not resulted in his death in 1943. This site from the Alaska State Archives identify companies having registration from 1908 to 1987. The Archives "could" provide more about the company and what specific information might be available... HOWEVER, I "SERIOUSLY" doubt you would gain any specific information about him, versus general contract information on the company.
--Basic information about the records:
http://archives.alaska.gov/pdfs/collection_guides/ak_corp_a....
Location information concerning West Corporation:
http://archives.alaska.gov/pdfs/collection_guides/ak_corp_tu...
Archives information:
http://archives.alaska.gov/for_researchers/for_researchers.h...

Hi,
I did find the Kirby Family Tree, trees.ancestry.com/tree/15876860/person/321316936 which inludes James Henry Kirby. You can access Ancestry at no charge at the public library in most larger cities.

He's also listed on findagrave.com in the Park Lawn Memorial Park in Commerce, Los Angeles Co., CA. They say he died in Adak, Alaska while working a construction project for the government. He was buried in Adak Cemetery and was moved and re-buried in Park Lawn close by his mother.

I'd request a copy of his death certificate from the Alaska Bureau Vital Statistics, www.hss.state.ak.us/dph/bvs/death/default.htm . Successful Searching!

My uncle, James H Kirby, died in the Aleutian Island during WWII or shortly after the war ended. Some time between November 1943 and April 1947. In a letter dated 28 April 1947 from the War Department it states he is buried in the Adak Island Cemetery on Adak Island, Aleutian Islands. He had a permit to work for West Construction Company. I believe they did heavy construction as he worked a jack hammer... Any information would be GREAT! sfi_santaana@yahoo.com.

They stationed him in the Aleutian Islands to work contruction and drive truck...this was during WW2.

Anyone know where I could get a record of this or verification of it?

Thank you,
Delayne
Minnesota

I'm trying to locate information on my daughter's half brother- the son of Sgt Robert Frank Dragoo, U.S. Army (Regular), who was stationed in the Aleutian Islands during the second World War. My daughter would like to correspond with him.

Robert and I were married after he returned to the states (1944) and the child was born sometime prior to that. Robert told me that the mother's name was "Nadjah Burstoff" (spelling off!) and that she was part Aleut Indian and part Russian. Since they were not married, the son may be using his mother's name. Robert died over 30 years ago.

Any help appreciated

Jerri Chasteen
Claremore, OK
