My aunt, Susan Wirell married a John Ricca who was a Sheriff in Alabama sometime after WWII. Susan left Nova Scotia, Canada to become a domestic. John was awarded a watch which was inscribed "for bravery above and beyond the call of duty." He was quite a man and their story is beautiful. Aunt Susan died of Swamp fever. It was her dying wish to return to Canada and die with her mom and dad (Isabel and Robert James Wirell). John spent every cent he had and hired a private nurse. He brought her back to my Great Grandmother Wirell. She died a couple of weeks later. John had to borrow the money to return home. Would appreciate any info at all.
