I can't thank you enough for this info! This just broke through a brick wall that I've been struffling with for years. We were told as kids that my grandfather's father, Hayden Hall, died in an accident when he (my grnadfather) was very young. So much for that. Plus I had my great grandmother's name wrong. This is so helpful -- thank you, thank you!!!:)

HI! I am Tracy Neely. John Dudley was my Grandfather. So Kate Preston Stillings was my Great Aunt. For some reason I am really interested in her. Don't know why but I feel some kind of kindred spirit- really weird. Is there any information that you can share? I know she was a school teacher before she married Sam Wade and had 3 children who lived- a fourth one died. I know they lived in Montgomery. That's all I know. I would love a photo if you happen to have one. My email is stearman2003@yahoo.com.

This is great info. You're good at this ThomasKer2! The mystery I'm trying to unravel is this: my grandfather's father was Hayden Hall (Hayden John Hall). He was married to Mary Catherine Murphy before the marriage to Evie and had a son named Cecil Murphy Hall on Jan 29, 1912 in Wilcox Alabama. I'm trying to find records of the marriage and divorce of Haydon John Hall and Mary Caroline Murphy and for the birth of Cecil Murphy Hall. Also trying to document the death (and cause of death) for Haydon Hall. Many thanks!!

Your family's migrations mirror the migrations of my HILLIS and GLOVER lines. Began in SC, moved to Camden, Wilcox Co. AL, then to Pope Co. AR around 1840. You might try looking at connections between them. The CAMPBELL line doesn't cross mine directly, so I don't know anything very helpful to you.

Just a thought.

Is anyone researching Campbells in Wilcox County in the 1830/1840's? I have a Campbell family last found on the Saline Co AR 1850 census showing two of the family members born in AL and three born in SC. Family members born in AL are Samuel P Campbell b 1832 and Elizabeth Campbell b in 1833. The older siblings show to be born in SC - James and Susan - as well as the head of household is another James b in SC about 1794 or 1814 depending on how his age is interpreted on the census (56 or 36). I am trying to find out any other information on this family. Thank you

I have Alexander Gaston and Elizabeth Warlord both born 1800 Abbiville, Camden, S C, went to Camden, Wilcox, Al and then to Camden, Ark. I found them on the census there in the 1860 and 1870. I am wondering if there is any connection of these families. Usually families moved with other family members and their extended family members. I can carry Elizabeth Warlord back, but not Alexander. I know he is connected to the larger Gaston family that came to the US from Ireland, but can not make my connection. I would be interested in seeing your families to see if I can find a connection.

I have Campbells listed on the 1850 saline Co ARkansas census. Two of the Campbells were born in AL and three were born in SC according to that census. The two born in AL are Samuel P (b 1832) and his sister Elizabeth (b 1833). The other siblings were born in SC (James and Susan). The oldest listed Campbell (another James - father or older brother?) was born in SC as well. These people are my brick wall as I have not been able to find them earlier than the 1850 Saline Co AR census. I am grasping at straws, but thought I would submit this information in hopes that someone might shed some light on these folks. Thank you. Kay

I am
using DNA to try to push the envelope on what I know about
my Wrights. Right now, it looks like we are part of the
group of Wrights that were Quakers coming out of SC.

It is curious that I have identified one line of Quaker
Wrights in Wilcox Co. & another in Monroe Co. But, I still
can't make a direct tie.
Hi, I have some info on William Riley Eddins; as I know it Nancy Manning was his first wife, Nancy King was his second wife. Please correct me if I'm wrong. The info I have on James Riley Eddins is Civil War service records and Marlin Texas stuff. Let me know if you are interested in this or if you have it already. I do have a question for you: I have James listed as John or J R Eddins, are these two different brothers or the same person and I just got the first name wrong?
I believe William Robert was the youngest son of William Riley and Nancy King. I don't have alot on him yet, there are so many Williams in this family, its easy to get sidetracked.

Howdy!
Oh yes...I would deeply appreciate any information you can share with me on Willis and Lallie's children !!!

What little I know about their children now :
(1) WWI draft reg 05 Jun 1917 Wilcox Co AL "Thomas Cochran BRAGG, wm age 26 of Camden, AL + born 05 Dec 1891 Rock West, AL + single + 3 yrs in Al Natl Guard + signed Thomas Cochran Bragg"

Thomas married Ray or Roy [TATE] daughter of Robert E. Tate and Jennette [Unknown] who lived in Nansemond Co VA in 1900 + 1910 and Hanover Co, VA in 1920 + 1930.
Their daughter Lallie Marie [Bragg] was listed in Thomas and Ray's HH and in Ray's parents HH in 1930:

1930 Wash DC/1826 Ingleside Terr
BRAGG, Thomas C /HH/wm age 38 AL/Al/Al + married age 28 + Veteran
Bragg, Roy E /wife/wf age 33 PA/Pa/Pa + married age 23
Bragg, Lallie M /dtr/wf age 09 Wash DC/Al/Pa
Spaulding, Harris W /Lodger/wm age 58 MA/NH/Ma + divorced

1930 Hanover Co VA/Ashland/HH 200-206/pg 98b
(03 Apr 1930)
TATE, Robert E /HH/wm age 66 PA/Pa/Pa + married age 26
Tate, Jennie M /wife/wf age 61 PA/Pa/Pa + married age 21
Tate, Virginius H /son/wm age 17 VA/Oa/Oa
BRAGG, Lallie M /G-dtr/wf age 09 Wash DC/Al/Pa

On 16 Nov 1937 Thomas and Ray were living at 1808 30th Avenue North, St Petersburg, Pinellas Co, FL when his sister Felicia 2nd married at their home.
On the FL death index there is a Thomas Bragg who died 1940 in Pinellas Co FL - no other info is given on the index.

(2) daughter Lallie M, twin of Thomas, married Abraham Crum Cook Sr. I found 6 children on the 1920 + 1930 Wilcox Co AL censuses but have no other information on them.
There is an Abe C. COOK who died 04 May 1958 Wilcox Co AL
on the AL death index - possibly Sr or Jr ???
Lallie [Bragg] Cook is listed as Lollie COOK on the SSDI with death date Mar 1973 and last residence Camden, Wilcox Co, AL.

(3) daughter Felicia 1st married a Mr HUGHES and had a daughter Felicia. The 1930 census shows Felicia as being divorced and living with her mother and her daughter Felicia
whose age appears to be either 03 or 08.
1930 Wash DC/Prec 2/HH 38-47/pg 112b
(05 Apr 1930)
BRAGG, Lallie T /HH/wf age 65 AL/Al/Al + widow
HUGHES, Felicia B /Dtr/wf age 36 AL/AL/Al + divorced + secretary
Hughes, Felicia /G-dtr/wf age 03? 08? Wash DC/Al/Al

Next I found Felicia [Bragg] Hughes' wedding announcement to Victor Ivan MOORE, 16 Nov 1937 in St Petersburg, Pinellas Co, FL. This was at least a 2nd marriage for both.
Below is a list of persons named in the announcement and a link to it:
http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=950&dat=19371116&a...
The Independent, St Petersburg, Florida, Tuesday, Nov 16, 1937, Evening Edition
... Miss Lallie Marie BRAGG, St Petersburg, Fla ??
... Mrs Joseph A BISHOP, St Petersburg, Fla ??
... late Rev Henry MOORE
... Great-grand niece of General Braxton BRAGG
... Grand-daughter of Felix TAIT

It appears that Felicia and Victor Moore did not remain married as his TX death certificate # 39794 lists him as "widowed" but Felicia lived until 1961........
"Victor Ivan MOORE, wm age 60, resident of Austin, Tx 18 years + born 23 May 1883 AL + died 06 Aug 1943 Austin, Travis Co Tx + widowed + father Rev Henry Dannelly Moore born SC + mother Caroline Tait born AL + buried 07 Aug 1943 Rose Hill Cemetery, Ft Worth, Tx + Dean of Men and Student Life at University of Texas + informant Mrs R A Hatcher of Austin"

INTERESTING...
(A) Victor's parents were Rev Henry Dannelly MOORE and Caroline [TAIT],daughter of Felix Tait and Narcissa Goree.
(B) Felicia's parents were Willis Nunnelee BRAGG and Lallie [TAIT],daughter of Felix Tait and Narcissa Goree.
SO IF I've identified Victor's mother correctly, he and wife Felicia were 1st cousins....?
==========================================================
Other than having transcribed all of the census records and having found Lallie, Felicia, and Willis (as well as his parents and brother Thomas) in the Camden Cemetery, this is all the information I have on Willis and Lallie, per se.

Kathye

Kathye,

I may be able to help you with some of the descendants of Willis Bragg and Lallie Bragg if you are interrested. Lallie was the sister of my greatgrandfather, Felix Tait. Lallie was an artist and I have one of her paintings in my living room in Atlanta. One of their daughters, also named Lallie, married Abe Crum Cook, Sr. My notes show 40 or more of their descendants. In fact, there is going to be a Cook Reunion in Camden this coming June 13th.

Let me know if you are interrested in any of this. My e-mail is Dennismayo@gmail.com.

Whew, even the trusty old GenWeb site for Wilcox County is a complete bust. The Wilcox County library does not have a website and there's not even a RAOGK volunteer for Wilcox County !!!

Where can I find the standard (marriage, death) genealogy records ??? Or books of Wilcox County records for sale ???

I can find cemetery records but that's no help when you have no clue who the daughters married.........

I am trying to gather and document the 7 children of Alex J. BRAGG and Martha [NUNNELEE] who married in 1848.
Martha died in 1875 and Alex died in 1877 and they along with their 2 sons Thomas and Willis are buried in the Camden Cemetery.

All of their children were born and raised in Wilcox County. Son Thomas married Sallie BUSSEY and died in 1893 - his widow moved to Lee Co AL. Son Willis married Lallie TAIT and died in 1913 - his widow moved to Wash DC.
I have no clue what happened to the 5 daughters (Sarah, Ida, Keziah, Martha, and Elizabeth) after 1880.

Martha [Nunnelee] Bragg is a descendant of William Womack Nunnelee and Ann [Franklin] (like me) and I just can't let her become "lost" to our family or history.

Any suggestions ?????

Her father was William Jasper Sims affectionately known as Wild Bill Sims by me alone! He was married and lived across the road from the Williamson woman who had several children. His wife I believe hasd 13. My father told me the two women served each other as midwives when needed.

Sarah Watkins Information Needed

I am looking for any cemetery or vital records regarding Sarah Ratcliff Watkins who died in Wilcox County, Alabama, circa 1850. Her husband was John Fletcher Watkins who later moved on to Rusk County, Texas, where he died in 1859. She had approximately 11 children, one being John Ratcliff Watkins born to her on 26 Mar 1840 in Alabama. Thank you for your time and effort regarding this matter. Please email me if you need any further information. judson.watkins@yahoo.com
