Hi, Sharon,

Yes! These names sound familiar to me. I have been researching this McGee family for 10 years, trying to trace the first James McGee, Jane's father, into GA. His son, James, is my gggrandfather. I have been hoping to find descendants of James' siblings to try to learn where the rest of the family went.

James, son of James, moved to Enterprise, Clarke County, MS, and was on the 1855 MS State Census. He served in the CW from there. My line from him is:

Sidney
Alma
Johnanna
me

Have you found the link between the McGee and Sheffield families in Wilcox County? James married Susanna Sheffield in the 1820's in AL. She was from NC.

Where do you live? I live in the Atlanta, GA area. I'll be going to the Federal/State archives on Friday to try to find more on this family in particular. There is one other family I will be researching, if I have time. I hope we can work together to figure out how to trace this family back to before the 1820's.
