I have obtained unconfirmed information that a portion of the Hennis family was buried in the Jones Cemetery, in
Washington County, Alabama. My wife is a desendent of
William Hennis who was the son of Lewis Hennis

Dave Ennis (Hennis) married Martha Beech on 4/17/1854 in Washington county. He evidently married 3 more times: Caroline, Amanda, and ?? and had 4 children. mary Ann (My great-grandmother), Loucrecy, David (Jr.), Nancy, Artemesia (also called Artie & Missy, and Abraham. He is buried near Purvis, MS. In 1850, David Hennis (right age) is with Elias Hennis 21 and Susan, 18. Family history says Dave's father was also David and his mother was Ordia Cook. Looking for confirmation or more information.

Do you know if Dave Hennis was a brother of Lewis Hennis also of Washington County. Lewis Hennis married a woman with the first name "Tabitha." I am trying to find out her maiden name.
Thanks,
E. Willilams

Hi, Here's what I know about Dave's family. I got my information from Information from Dawn Henderson and Curtis Hennesy. I don't know how to contact Dawn anymore, and I think I heard that Curtis had died. It is interesting that my Dave was listed as David Ennis when he married Martha Beech. (She was wife #1 (of probably 4) and I come through their line. But David/Dave shortened his name from Hennesy. My grandmother had that his mother was Ordia (pronounced Audrey) Cook. Curtis sent me a copy of their marriage license--actually not a copy, but a typed license showing information from the original. Contact me at mrscharlotteATgmail.com and I will send you some family information. It will be easier to send an attachment than type it all here. I do have that there was a Lou, but have that it was a sister. It may be that Lewis was called Lou and we assumed he was a she. Charlotte

I am a descendant of Mary Jane Hennis daughter of Lewis Hennis and sister of your William. I have Lewis Hennis's CSA military record but can only find him and his family on one US Census, the 1870.

Do you have any further information on Lewis? His siblings?
Thank you.
Ellen Williams, in Alabama

According to "The History of Washington County, Vol II," there are no Hennis's listed in Jones Cemetery at all. In the Jones Hill Cemetery, the only Hennis is my great-grandmother Mary Jane Hennis Wood.

My grandfather Calvin Lewis Hennis was the nephew of Mary Jane Hennis Wood. I heard them speak of Aunt Mary Jane Wood all of my life. Grandfather had sister named Mary Jane too.

I am Dorothy Hennis Outerbridge of Mobile, ALandnd am tracing the Hennis roots. I know that my father, Robert, was related to the Wood family. I believe his father was Calvin but do not know the middle name. He was married to a Mary Rogers (?). Are you the daughter of Herschel Wood?
If so, we are related. Did you attend Fruitdale School?
