C. W. Gore Dies ( Shelby County Reporter August 21, 1958 )

Can W. Gore, employed by Valley Mills, a local textile plant, was stricken while at his work, Tuesday August 12, and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at a Birmingham hospital. Mr. Gore was a capable and efficient employee and his passing will mean a great loss to the company and his fellow workers. He had been continously employed by Valley Mills since December 14,1948 and was their oldest employee in line of service.

Anyone related to this man please contact me, I would like to be able to connect him to my Gore family.

Can W. Gore was my husband's grandfather. He was married to Mattie Gill and they had five children. Can W. Gore had a sister named Geneva. Geneva was born November 1899 in Georgia and Can William was born December 7, 1901 in Georgia. Parents of these two were James M. Gore and Arizona Holcombe. Can Gore was a stepbrother to my grandfather Harvey Allen Hester. Harvey's father was John William Hester who married Arizona Holcombe Gore in 1902. The 1910 census for Mandeville, Carroll, Georgia list John W Hester, Arizonia "Arizona" Hester, Maud H Hester, Alice L Hester, Rosie A Hester, Harney "Harvey" Hester, Genevie "Geneva" Gore, Can W Gore. My father took me to visit Aunt Mattie (Can's wife) in Columbiana, Alabama when I was a small girl. John and Arizona are buried at Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Walker County, Alabama. The grand children of Harvey still live near this area. Rebecca Hester-Vining
