I am researching Bula Winford Slappey/Slappy who was the daughter of John Alexander Slappey & Mary Jane Dupree. Bula married Jeremiah Carr in Worth County, GA. I read one of the postings which said there are quite a few of the Slappey's still living in Georgia and Alabama. Bula was born in Feb 1876. She and Jeremiah had two children that I know of (might be more); they were: Willie Vileta Carr and Benton Carr.

Does anyone know anything else about Jeremiah & Bula? I did find them in the 1900 Pike County, Alabama census but after that I can't find anything on them. I didn't know if they might have returned to Worth County or that area.

Thanks in advance for any help!

My mother was a descendant of Hans George Slappey and I have her book written by Mary T Slappey and Lennick M Slappey, Sr. It lists Bula as one of John Alexander Slappey's children but that's all I see. I would be very interested in anything you have found out......I would be very interested in finding any relatives left in Albany, Ga

My mother is Mattie B. Slappy of cochran, GA father is Jack Slappy and he had brothers and 2 sisters 1 of which should still reside in GA. Jack was born in 1900 and died 1981. HE was born on the slappy plantation in GA. I have been trying to locate this place for sometime. A great deal of the slappys came from this plantation and relations with white slave decendents and masters. The slappy's disbursed all of this country when they became free. The are related as I have done my research there is a lady by the name of Ms. Burns in cochran, GA she knows the history of the slappy's she is the daughter of the elder slappy's. Search the phone book for slappys in GA and you will find your answers. My mother resides in florida.

Just started taking over the Genealogy search from my parents. My Father was born in Albany, and we are from the Daniel Arthur Slappey line( my GGrandfather, Bula's brother). My father was orphaned pre-teen, and I was raised on the west coast, so I don't have any contacts in Georgia, but am happy to e-meet other "cousins". If I run across any information on Bula, I'll pass it on. With all the new items showing up online these days, it's getting much easier to at least find starting points for old brick walls.
