I am trying to find information on Hiram Cook of Barbour County. He apparently was killed in the Civil War. Could he have been a brother to John E. Cook?

I don't have Hiram on any of my records. Most of my Cook ancestors in Barbour County are buried at Bethsaida Church Cemetary just West of Clayton on the Barbour/Bullock County Line

I wanted to share this article I found in our libaray in Dothan, Al. on John E. Cook

"Some Old People" Part 3, Troy Messenger 1889-1891
John E. Cook (1889)
The above named gentleman was born in 1821, came of good old Southern stock, and is one of Pike's foremost and most enterprising farmer. He came to the county in 1844 and settled near Monticello where he still resides. During all these years he has been known as an upright, honest, peaceable, law-abiding citizen.
Mr. Cook is well versed in the history of those early days when this section was in it's infancy and it is almost like a romance to hear him tell of the men and incidents that go to make the history of the county.
His plantation, one of the most desirable in the county, comprises a portion of what was once the town of Monticello.
Mr. Cook has been married twice and has raised an interesting family. At the age of 68 he is hale and hearty, and what is better, has the esteem of his neighbors and all who know him.

Thanks for sharing that....I now know that he was alive in 1889, still trying to find out the exact date and place of burial, my great uncle who is 86 years old thinks it is at Ramah Primitive Baptist Cemetary in Josie but I was unable to locate the grave...I did locate the graves of several of of his siblings.

Milton,

Thank you very much for that information.

I have been to the Bethsaida Cemetary and have seen the unmarked grave there. Interesting that the original church is still standing.

As far as John E., my GG Grandfather, I was concerned that his grave was descecrated by that farmer, so that is good news.

Perhaps we could correspond by email as I may have some things to share with you if you like. My address is chris_cook at bellsouth.net

Thanks!

Do you know where this Shiloh Cemetary is located in Pike County

Milton,

Just might be interesting to you that Alfred Green was reportedly a minister because he married John E. Cook to his 3rd wife, though I am not sure what congregation he was with, he is buried at Ramah. Not exactly sure if he served at that particular church or not.
