Seeking to get information on the following family, who resided in and around Uniontown, AL, Perry County-ca. 1856-1859. I was recently told the family left Montgomery in early 1856 and lived in Uniontown before finally settling in Caledonia, AL, where Mary Margaret was buried.

Mary Margaret (Kirkpatrick)McClurkin b. 1802 Ireland d 1892 Caledonia, AL, Wilcox County.
Children 1. Elizabeth McClurkin b-ca 1834-36 Ireland-m-
Seymour Hopkins 6/25/1856,Montgomery
2. James E. McClurkin b. 1836 Ireland
3. John McClurkin b. 12 Feb. 1844 Ireland
4. Martha Matilida McClurkin b. 12 Nov. 1845 Ireland
5. Francis (Frank)McClurkin b. 9 Apr 1847 Ireland

I found Elizabeth (McClurkin) Hopkins and S.P. Hopkins listed in the 1860 Census: Woodville Beat, Uniontown, AL, Perry County 7/19/1860.

Thanks for any information related to our family history.

I have been reading your postings with great interest. You and my husband have ancestors in common: James Andrew McCLURKIN and Mary Margaret KIRKPATRICK. Their son, James (who married a woman named Amanda) died very young (one source says at the Battle of Vicksburg, though I have yet to find the evidence of that). James and Amanda had 2 sons that didn't get along: John, who never married; and James Edward, who became a Baptist preacher in Texas and married Lucy Bell O'GWYNN. Rev. McCLURKIN is my husband's gg-grandfather (I have attatched a copy of the only photo I have of Rev. James Edward McCLURKIN). We learned about Rev. McCLURKIN's family tree last summer when a very old typewritten family tree was found folded this preacher's Bible. It doesn't say much about your line of the family, but you are welcome to a copy of it nonetheless. You seem to know a great deal more about the McCLURKINs and KIRKPATRICKs than I have been able to uncover in the past year. Would you care to swap information on these families? I am particularly interested in copies of birth/death/marriage certificates and photographs, but anything would be helpful. Thanks for ANY assistance you can give. It is greatly appreciated.

I am sorry I did not see your response in early June. I would love to see photo and a copy of the family tree from the Bible of Rev. James Edward McClurkin. And I would be glad to share the photos I have of the McClurkins, some going back to Ireland before they came over to America.
You can e-mail me your address and I will be glad to share. We do have record of James E. McClurkin killed in Battle of Vicksburg 1864. James married Amanda Owen ca 1860. Amanda later married 2nd time Richard L. Gallatin. We do not have record of James E. & Amanda having children. You have got some information we do not have. This is very interesting. The McClurkin Family is a very thoughtful and caring family. My family is very proud be be part their heritage.

Regards,

"James Edward, who became a Baptist preacher in Texas and married Lucy Bell O'GWYNN. Rev. McCLURKIN is my husband's gg-grandfather" - he is my Great Grandfather as well. My sister has been interested in a family tree, so I was doing some searches for her. You said you had some info to share, can I have it?
