Laura, most of my Booker info came from other researchers, but I am happy to send you what I have. I am particularly interested in your Ingram family because my ggggrandmother was married to Isaac Ingram. She was Mary Polly Sills Robertson Ingram.

My Dad's niece Mary Ellen Lovette married Ephraim Eligah Bowen. Their son Gary married Rebeca Voncile Booker. I would like very much to exchange data with you on these families.

Freda Roberson Noble

I've posted here before with no response but let me try again. My ggrandmother was Rachel Blackwell Chavers Grimes born and raised in Monroe County in the household of Marina/Marion Blackwell as per census. Now Marina/Marion had some of the children of Edward and Sinea with her plus in the earliest census she appears in, 2 sons of her own. Looking at the census, I suspect that Marina/Marion was too old to be Rachel's mother which leaves the two older girls as probable mother. My grandfather told me before he died(he lived to 98)that Rachel was a Boatwright and there was a young Boatwright working for Gabe Blackwell at the right time. In family lore, does anyone have a story that would explain all these relationships? AND anyway, WHO was Marina/Marion? If Edward and Sinea left children with her she must have had some relationship with one of them, I'm betting Edward's sister or a sister-in-law.

My father (Cliff Lindsey) and his brothers (Walter, Jim and Bob) grew up in Monroeville, AL.

Their parents were Walter Meeks Lindsey and Emma Clifton (Turnage) Lindsey, both originally from Mississippi. Emma died in a TB hospital in Shreveport, LA in October 1945, and Walter died (in Bay Minette, AL?) in June 1962. Both are buried in Monroeville, but I don't know in what cemetery, other than having been told "the Baptist Church cemetery". I've checked the ones that are listed online on the Monroe County GenWeb site, but haven't found them.

If anyone has access to cemetery listings other than those, and can look up these two, I would be most grateful!

Margaret Lindsey Smith

PS - if anyone has any other information on Walter and Emma (or any of the sons) in Monroe County, I'd be very happy to have that too!

Hello again,
Great to hear from you. No, Catherine is not buried in this cemetery, I'm sorry to say. I know how you feel when you can't find them. I have several throughout all of my research that are just lost. When I saw the name John Chesley Bethea is just knew that he was connected to my ggggrandfather, John Chesley Tart(t) some how. It's great to find someone on that side of the family that is doing research. Yes, we probaby should know each other. I have tried for years to find someone who is connected to this family. Do you have a picture of Catherine? I have a picture of John Chesley Tartt and his wife Elizabeth Conwill Tartt. He is a very handsome man but I can't say much for Elizabeth. She looks like she is mad at the world.
Til next time. Peggy
Hi Ree
Great to hear from you. I thought I had lost you forever.
I live right here in Monroe County, Mississippi where the Tart family first moved in from Monroe County, Alabama. I am the gggranddaughter of John Chesley Tart(t) who was born
in Liberty County (now Marion County), South Carolina. He
moved to Monroe County, Alabama and married Elizabeth Conwill. The Conwills, Hawkins and Tarts moved to Monroe County, Mississippi to what is now known as the Cason
Communtiy on Hwy. 371 near Amory. I take care of the cemetery where the originals Conwills, Hawkins and Tarts are
buried. How are you exactly tied in?

Freda,
Thanks to you, have found Dr. Cole. The hint of a son named Charles is what did the trick. They were in 1910 Monroe...David D (suspect this was originally Dr) Cole. The page is very faded but occupation says physician. Your speedy help is very much appreciated. Thank you very much & blessings to you!
Ginny Wilson

Seeking the names of any doctors in Monroe County 1900-1950. Am especially interested in any information on a Dr. Cole. Not certain Cole is correct. Can't find him on a census. It may be that he lived in a neighboring county or even that his name was spelled a bit different from Cole. It's believed he practiced in Monroe in the 1930s & was said to be the only doctor. Many thanks,
G. Wilson

Thank you so much, Freda. I hope you're right! You see, many years ago, my husband's uncle married a wonderful lady whose mother died about the same time as the aunt's birth. We believe the mother of his aunt was one of the doctor's children. Her grandmother raised her for the first two or three years which is when she remembers being taken to her father's house & being raised by her step mother. She's never understood why.

Because of the research done today, we now know that her family didn't just give her up...death separated them. Her mother's death was followed by the grandmother's death when the child almost three. At that point, her father brought her to his home.

She has always known that her daddy loved her, but she's never understood why her mother's family didn't want her. No one would ever answer her questions & all who knew the full story are now long dead. She has been left feeling uncared for by her mother. Now we know that wasn't the case at all. At least, not from what we've pieced together from the records we found today thanks to your clues.

You've brightened the life of a seventy four year old genuine & gentle lady. As her niece-in-law, I can't thank you enough!
Ginny

Hi, I grew up in Monroeville, county seat of Monroe County, Al.

I vaguely remember hearing the name "Dr. Cole," but he didn't practice in Monroeville in the 30s and 40s. I think he had a son named Charles Cole...not sure.

Dr. Alvin Bartley Coxwell, Sr., was our family doctor from 1927-45?
Dr. Rayford Smith, Sr., was a family physician in Monroeville, 40s and later.
There was a Dr. Carter who lived in Repton, but who worked all over the county/counties.

Wish I could be of more help. Try Butler and Baldwin Counties.

Freda Roberson Noble

Always so lovely to see "Monroeville Baptist Church" come up on my screen!
Ted and I were married there, too, and I am still very sorry that the community felt the building on the square had to be torn down. Such a lost!

Martha, it's been a long time! Glad you are still researching your families.

I have several Massey's in my database that I would like to identify. Does anyone have info on:

Ernest Massey who married Barnett Brantley. I have one son for them,
John L. Massey.

Lucretia Massey who married Graydon Shawn Manning. I have two children for them: Bryson Massey and Madelyn Grace Massey.

Maria Massey who married James Pinkerton. I have 13 children's names for this couple.

Martha Frances Massey who married Samuel Walter Robinson. I have seven children for them.

Many thanks for any info.

Freda Roberson Noble
tnoble@mcn.org
Gualala Ca

Thank you for telling me more of your story. I thought you were writing a history of physicians in MC!!

You should be able to find Dr. Cole in several census records to verify if the lovely lady is one of his children. There are several people in MC who will help you search if you need help. If you can write to me directly, I will give you their names if you want them.

Freda

Ginny, I appreciate your letting me know that I helped you! That is what is so great about this family history research...people helping each other. I could not do what I do if many researchers didn't help me.

I am not sure...don't go back to M'ville these days...but there should be descendents of Dr. Cole in or near M'ville. Gloria Cole, daughter of a Charles and Camay Cole, who would be in her seventies, may still live there. I don't know her married name. Her father may not be the son of Dr. Cole but a nephew or cousin??/

Best of luck to you. Freda
