Hi Alton,In 1900 my Great grandfather was in the Yorkville,Pickens Alabama area that was later named Ethelsville,his name was Earnest Curtis Simpson born abt.1876 and he married Mary Clardy. Most of his children were born in Mississippi around 1900-1907. The children were Levada,Floyd,Matilda,Gerrard and Higdon Gillespie who was my Grand father.Earnest's father was John Simpson born 1854 AL who married Martha ? born abt.1850. My father was born in Mobile in 1930. Soon after 1930 they moved to Rockville MD. Does any of this ring a bell? Andy Simpson

I have Noel Turner Sr's daughter, Sarah Turner in my mother's line who married Jacob Pierre Baptiste(my gggggrandparents.)

I have Noel Turner Sr's son John "Jack" Turner in my fahter's line who married Melinda Denny, whose daughter Sarah Turner married William Hallett Rolls( my gggrandparent).

I have Noel Turner Sr's son Noel Turner Jr.'s son Charles (a policeman)in my father's line whose daughter Laura Turner married Warren Davis (brother to Swanston Theodore Davis who married Sophronia B. Rolls my gggrandparents). That would make them my great great aunt and uncle.

If a cemetery book is available for Mobile County, I would appreciate a lookup for Hillery and/or Mary M. Allman. Hillery was born about 1806, and Mary was born about 1810. They may have been in Mobile in 1866, as their son was there. They are not found in 1870. Thank you.

You might try a book by Brooks Blevins, Cattle in the Cotton Fields: A History of Cattle Raising in Alabama, (1998 The University of Alabama Press).

I'd also just contact the author. You can probably find out where he is currently working either from the book cover or by contacting the UA Press.

I can not imagine a circumstance in which it would be feasible to drive cattle from the Gulf of Mexico to Virginia. Nor am I aware of a dearth of cattle in the Shenandoah Valley, except perhaps during the French and Indian War or the Civil war. I have read of herds of swine being driven from East Tennessee to Virginia in the early 1800's.

i am also researching Charles Haswell married to Elizabeth Pickering Kirkleatham.Found them both on 1841 cencus Marske.Been unable to find a Death record for Charles.His emigration to America would explain this .Do you have details to say he is the same man.

My husband is Douglas Wayne Henderson. He is from Citronelle, Alabama. His mom was Thelma L. Fraizer/ Newburn. Her mom was Louise Fraizer. I have found her on the 1920 census for Citronelle with William, Maggie, Ellen, Ruby, Kerman, Louise, and Alice. On the 1930 census is is already married and gone, but thefamily still list Will, Maggie, Ruby, Kennon, Alice, Oscar, Raymond, Nellie, Lorina, she is a grand-daughter. Is this the same family? The issue here is that he would not have been drafted until age 22. So as most such stories this one is most likely the same.... just a story!

He appears to have been Slovenian or possibly Croatian. But Jake is not a spelling one would find in that area nor in continental Europe for that matter. Jakob or Jakov. But Marian is a male given name in Croatia. My guess is that he came from either the Dalmatian coastal region in Croatia or the Istrian Peninsula, which is in Croatia and Slovenia. Men from that area are known to have migrated to the SE and Gulf Coast of the US.

The birthdate you have for him does not jibe with what HE gave the Draft Board in WWI

I am looking for information obits, records of any kind, on my great Aunt Lena Schneider Pearre and her family. Lena Schneider(1887-1925) married Knight G Pearre(1870-1936) in Livingston Co., Illinois where they were both from, they had a son Lemeul Donovan Pearre(1889-1974). They moved to Mobile and from what records I have they all died in Mobile. I would be grateful for any information about the Pearre's. I am not sure if Donovan had a wife and children. Thank you.

Also, I forgot to add that my line is from the area of St Helena Parish, or Florida Parishes, the towns of Greensburg and Montpelier, La, and my great, great grandfather was part Indian. From my understanding, there were a large number of Choctows in this area before their migration.

This is a very, very, very large family!!! I am a Battiste and there are several spellings of the name within my line. I have been able to trace my line back to just a few years before the end of slavery, but going forward is where it gets tricky. Because each branch was so large, we are scattered literally all over the world. It has been hard to make the connections.

I do appreciate your helpful information! I don't know what branch you are connected to or most interested in but I have quite a few old photos of some of the Lepre siblings (children of Pierre (Peter?) Lepre and Celina Moran.) I have good one of Celina taken on a train "photo car" and a snapshot including Pierre Lepre and his daughter Armine? and her husband John Bernich...some of the son Peter Lepre and of course of my grandmother Lelia Lepre Taylor. I have my late mother's recollections of the Lepre aunts and uncles, too!

i can tell you ladners go on forever as does the favres (LOL), they are very big families and go back to france/germany and came to the gulf coast area when it was first being settled. two good books for these two families are "Ladner Odyssey" (not sure if i spelled Odyssey right) and i think that was written by Napier. the other is "The Favre Family" which was written by Jerry Heitzmann. the ladner book is hard to find even in the libraries, but there is one in the St. Tammany libraries. it's best to call the Slidell Library to see where it is in the three libraries. as for the favre book, my sister found that one online. not sure what the sight, but i will try to find out for you. i know for sure in the favre book, you will find at least 25/26 morans. as for parker, i have:

1. Henry Parker and Sarah Beech, son was John Parker who married Emma Louisa Favre, daughter of Samuel Jacob Favre and Elizabeth Frazier, civilly on 23 March 1883.

as i said before, i don't have all my notes with me right now, moved back home from virginia and had to put most of my things in storage. have one more move to still make in oct/nov and then i can go get it all. will continue checking through what i do have and will forward anything else i come across.
