Zylpha “Zip” Augusta Capps

Zylpha Augusta Capps, 81, of Northport died Saturday, August 18, 2001, at Forest Manor Nursing Home.

Graveside services were Wednesday, August 22, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Mesopotamia Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Pearson and Dr. Robert Covington officiating and Kidd Robbins Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Capps was known affectionately as “Zip” by family and friends and “Big Mama” by the grandchildren. She is remembered as a hard worker and loved flowers, people, cooking and gospel music. She was born in Mashulaville, Ms. but lived most of her life in Eutaw. She was a member of Eutaw Baptist Church and Fidelis Sunday school class.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Buster Capps; her father, John Poindexer Richards; her mother, Lillian Strait Richards; her step-mother Mary Dixie Richards; one grandson, Frankie McDuff; one son-in-law, Sonny Pearson; two sisters, Dorothy Jean Stephens and Dixie Bell Richards; and two brothers, Dickie Richards and Bill Richards.

She is survived by two daughters, Janice Pearson of Vernon, Al. and Towie (Earl) McDuff of Eutaw; three sons, Don (Jane) Capps of Demopolis, Mike Capps (Dottie) of Vicksburg, Ms., and Ken (Kay) Capps of Thomasville; four sisters, Margaret Clawson of Northport, Georgia Richards, Stella Stephens, and Ethel Livingston all of Eutaw; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Pallbearers were Ian McDuff, Kaylan McDuff, Andrew Pearson, Michael Sparks, Kenny Capps, and Russell Stone.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. John Summerford, Dr, Rucker Staggers, nurses and aids and friends on station two of Forest Manor Nursing Home.

Flowers or memorial donations can be made to a charity of choice.
