I am trying to find infofmation on the Burrus led Regiment. Did they participate in the Battle of Horshoe Bend? My ancestor, Glen Phillips, has service papers in this regiment, but I cannot find any information about where they were and what they did. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I might be a relative. My great-great grandfather was Glen Phillips, who married Leah Mccord. His children were: Alvin, Perlina, Calvin, Albert and James. He was in the War of 1812 and died coming home to Alabama on March 4, 1815. He was buried on the banks of the Panther River in Alabama. He lived in Huntsville. I may have info. on the Burrus led Regiment. He was in the Battle of New Orleans and was in Capt. Longs Co.

Hi Emily,
Yes, I think we are. Glen and Leah McCord Phillips are my g-g-g-great grandparents. Basically, our information agrees with just a few minor differences. Their children were Andrew Barnard, James Vincent, Perlina, Albert Young, and Calvin M. I would lvery much like to correspond with you about our common ancestor.

I am thrilled and would love to correspond. Fortunately, someone wrote a bigraphical sketch of the family which I found in my father's papers after he died. There is still so much I would like to know. Glen's father was Andrew Phillips born near Richmond,VA, 1752. He married Susan Glenn of whom little is known. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War and served 5 years. After the war, he moved his family where Lexington,Kentucky now is and lived near Daniel Boone, participating in some of his battles. He remained there and in Overton Co.,Tenn. about 28 years. He then moved to Huntsville, Ala., about 1811 and died in 1820. There were 11 children: Glen, Elizabeth,Ben, Patsy, Betty, Lorney, Sarah, Nancy, Thomas, Lynn, and Susan.
I am looking for the children and have found Perlina, Albert and James. James was in the Black Hawk War.
I have more information and will share it with you. Let me know if anything specific. Emily

Hi,
I am still searching for the military info about Glen. I deeply regret not asking my father about it before he died.
I am traveling to Neodesha Kansas and Winnfield La in hopes of finding some Phillips descendants. Glen's son, Calvin lived in Neodesho Falls from 1850 to 1885. My great grandfather James J. lived the later part of his life around Winnfied. Have you seen the Mccord Family History on the web? It has direct reference to James and Jane (Scroggs) Mccord and references to Glen with some interesting anecdotes.. Emily
