Sometime afterwards he, his wife and some of the younger kids returned to Tuskegee area in AL. I found the home - now owned by a Wlm. Russell. Mr. Russell was a descendent of a step-child of one of the Tarpley girls and did not know where/when of James Marcus' death.
I have info that a James M. Tarpley was getting a pension form the Mexican War according to newspaper "Jacksonville Republic- March 5, 1887. I am guessing this is James Marcus. If you get any info on him please share - including info of the Civil War. Thanks, Judy Kay
