Company "C", was recruited in May 1861 as the Opelika Volunteers in Russell County Alabama. (Now Lee County) It was enlisted into the 6th Alabama Infantry Regiment on May 17, 1861 as Company "H" and became Company “C” at reorganization in April 1862. Captains were: James Fleming Waddell (until reorganization); Augustus S. Flournoy (KIA, Seven Pines); Rinaldo M. Greene (wounded, The Wilderness, Winchester)
