Don't know the religion of lawlor but one church in "Pratt City" was St. Catherine's. It was located at the end of Hibernia st. It had a cemetery attached to it and even tho it is now closed the records were transferred to a Catholic church in, I think, Graysville, AL.
If you can contact the chancery office of the Diocese of Birmingham in the city they may be able to give you info about where the records were transferred.
Good luck
nhsjcurran@yahoo.com

Yes & Hi,
Well Mollie was purchased by Raiford Lanier from her own father for a sack of flour and corn in Savannah, Ga. She and her father were coming thru on a covered wagan drawn by horses and Raiford took notice. After the broom jumping she never saw her family again. They have had upwards of 21 to 27 children most of which past before the age of 2.
The 1900 and 1910, 1920 federal census has her with Raiford in Bulloch, Ga.
Among her children were: Handy, Dallie, Fannie (my Grandmother), Nora, Pliney, Alma, and as well as others.
Run a search for Raiford LAnier and she is listed as his wife along with the rest of her children.
Thank You for your response. i still have Lanier family members in Staesboro, Ga.
Kimmie McIntyre Montoya
BronxKiKi@yahoo.com
PhreakDatOne2@comcast.net
267.872.5617

I am searching for descendants of James DeWitt LESLIE b. 1886 in Union Springs, AL. He and his wife, Irene Frobus Leslie, lived in the Birmingham area from the early to late 1900's. Their son, Ira LESLIE, was b. abt 1914 and married Myrna H. (unk.) Ira was program director for several radio stations in Birmingham, including WVOK, before his death in 1968. According to his obit, he had a daughter, Mrs. Diane HERNANDEZ, of Texas. Ira's sister, Mary E. LESLIE b. 1916 married W. L. ADAMS and they had at least two daughters, Kay ADAMS MASON and Nancy ADAMS WALKER. Mary LESLIE ADAMS died about 1970.

I am seeking information on this family to complete my LESLIE family history for my husband's family (not for publication) and also in the hopes of having a Leslie reunion in the near future. I would appreciate any leads on contacting any of the family.
Beth, sorry it has been so long, I'm just now checking this board after many years. Bass Cemetery is the one between Trussville and Irondale (the haunted one). Is the little family cemetery you mention in a backyard? I remember seeing tombstones in someone's back yard off of Old Springvill Rd around Vaughn. I don't know what family that is, not sure if they are also Bass family. Sorry I could not be more help..I've wondered about the graves in the backyard, so if you find out, please let me know who is buried there. Thanks, Donna dizzydonna123@yahoo.com (the email address I used to post this was closed long ago).

I thought that I would post this picture and see if anyone could possibly identify anyone in this picture. It is very old and tattered. I just recently inherited it. I think that the older lady could be my Great Grandmother Grisella D. (McAlester) Rogers, born: 14 Feb 1833 Jefferson County, Alabama & died: 01 Apr 1916 Hueytown, Jefferson County, Alabama. Her husband and my Great Grandfather Nathaniel Edward Rogers was born 14 Feb 1823 Union District, South Carolina and died: 14 Mar 1903 Jefferson County, Alabama.

I have a picture of Grisella but people change so much with age. I will attach her picture too. Her face and my Father's face and the lady in the pictures face are definitely the same shape.

I hope someone can help!!!

Thanks!!!

Thanks for your help, however, I've reached a dead end there. The Jefferson Co. Department of Health tells me that records from a closed funeral home are most likely destroyed and are not required to be turned over to the state...at least in Alabama. The funeral home you suggested has no records from Luquire.

1930's photos

My mother was a teenager in Fairfield in the 1930's (FHS class of 1941). I have inherited photos of some of her friends from that era and I'd like to pass them along to people who would value them. Unfortunately, I only have first names, and in some cases, no names at all. My plan is to scan and post them on the web at some point. Does anyone have any suggestions about a good place to post them where they might be recognized?

I believe Luquire Funeral Home went out of business. I think Johns Ridouts took over their records. Try Ridouts Funeral Home in the Bham phone book. Thy had a place on 12th Avenue in Norwood and another on 8th Ave South in Bham.

If my memory serves me right, there was an area in North Birmingham that was referred to as Billy Goat Hill when I was a youngster living in Inglenook. I think it is now a recreation complex or a golf course. Was somewhere around the old US 31 that went to Cullman.
