Hello,
Thanks for the reply. That will be great. I can pay $15 per hour with a minimum of five hours and you don't have to do all the research in one day if you don't want to.

Solomon Ray Sr married Jane Echols in 1796 in Wilkes co Ga. Solomon Ray Sr died in 1813 in Jasper co Ga. they had a number of children and Solomon ray Jr born in Jasper co Ga in 1811 was my ancestor. He married Jane Church in 1829 in Henry co Ga which is the county next to Jasper co Ga. Jane Echols ray, widow of Solomon Ray Sr, married a Tinch Farrow in 1818. He took her money and left. Jane Echols Ray Farrow and her children went to Meriwether co Ga. Solomon Ray Jr (1811) and wife Jane went also. Jane Echols Ray Farrow married a solomon Lacks in 1833 in Meriwether co Ga. They all went Tallapoosa co Al about 1835. Solomon Ray Jr (1811) and wife Jane had a number of children and Lucinda ray born in 1837 in Tallapoosa co Al was my ancestor. Solomon Lacks, husband of Jane Echols Ray Farrow Lacks, died about 1854. I don't know when Jane (mother of Solomon Ray Jr (1811) died but it was probably in the late 1850's possibly in Tallapoosa co Al. Solomon Ray Jr (1811) and family left Tallapoosa co Al in the mid to late 1850's and went to Walker co Al Solomon received a land grant. The county just north of Walker co Al was Winston co Al in 1860 but it was named something else in the 1850's. This is where I would like the research to start. I have shared this information with you so you would have an idea who these people were and where they came from. Remember that the wife of Solomon Ray Jr was named Jane Church Ray and his mother was Jane Echols Ray.
This is what I would like you to research.

Solomon Ray and Jane and family lived in southern Winston co Al a few miles north of the Walker co Al line. They lived in the Black Pond area of Winston co Al. Solomon Ray was listed on the 1860 Winston co Al census. I know he served in the Civil War for the south. He was listed on the 1866 Alabama state census for Winston co Al living in the Black Pond area. His daughter Lucinda Ray had married Thomas M Abel or Ables in 1862 in Winston co Al. They were listed a few farms away in the same area. Solomon Ray signed a loyalty oath in 1867 in Winston co Al. I can not find any record about Solomon Ray after 1867. He was not listed on the 1870 Winston co Al census or the census taker just missed that area of Winston co Al or he was dead by 1870. Jane Ray,wife of Solomon Ray, was listed as a widow living with her son Silas Benjamin Ray in the 1880 Winston co Al census so Solomon died between 1867 and 1880. Silas Benjamin ray died in 1885 but I don't know if his mother Jane Ray died before or after he did. there was a courthouse fire in Winston co Al in I believe 1892 and most of the records were destroyed. that is why there is so little information.
I called and spoke with Elizabeth Wells who is in charge of special collections at the library at Samford University. They have microfilm of early Alabama churchs. The Oak Grove Baptist Church of Christ or Old Oak Grove Baptist Church was in the Black Pond area. Ms Wells said they have the film from I believe 1865-1885 for the Oak Grove Church. She mentioned a film number 1088. she said anyone could look at the film. When Solomon As I mentioned Silas Benjamin Ray,son of Solomon Ray and wife Jane, died in 1885. His preacher was James Hilton who preached at the Oak Grove Church. I would say that there is a good chance that Solomon Ray and wife Jane and possibly their daughter and son in law Lucinda Ray Abel or Ables and Thomas M Abel or Ables might be mentioned. It might be a film of the early church minutes. I would like you to read the film to see if there is a mention of Solomon Ray and wife Jane and Lucinda Ray Ables and husband Thomas M Ablel. It they are the early church minutes maybe it makes mention of when Solomon Ray died or when his wife Jane died. If the film is about the early church minutes it possibly will make mention of the Ray family. This is the first part of the research I would like you to do and I will send the other areas of reseaarch later. Thanks, Ross Smith
