Hi I was wondering if anyone has done a survey of Fraternal cemetery, in pratt city,al. I was recently there and it its very overgrown. Was unable to locate ancestors graves, which should be several. Is there someone who keeps the records for that cemetery? Do they have a clean up days for the cemetery. I would love to help. Please advise. Mary C. Backstrom

Mary

There are surveys of the Fraternal Cemetery. One is in the Jefferson County Cemetery Book Vol. 2. Also the Birmingham Genealogical Society performed a survey several years ago and printed it in the society magazine "Pioneer Trails"... I have access to both and would be happy to look up.

I have ancestors buried at Fraternal as well. It was cleaned-up and designated historic several year ago... there was even a preservation society formed... but I am not sure what is going on now.

In Jefferson County Cemeteries Vol. 2 the individuals are arranged alphabetically so you cannot determine "where" they are buried. I will have to check Pioneer Trails the next time I am at the library as I recall they are not alphabetical.

Here who is listed:

BRADLEY
Daniel (1822-1894)
Georgia Ann (1868-1961)
Mary, wife of Daniel (d.1903)
Samuel A. (1850-1922)

IRELAND
Luvenia (1897-1929)
*Note she is listed as buried at Greenwood which is adjacent to Fraternal.

MITCHEL
Frank (1894-1935)
Mary (1862-1944)
also listed
Kathleen H. 1905-1930
Shirley M. 1928-1929

Let me know if you are interested in some/all of them. Most have complete birth and death dates in the book. With these dates you can look up/request obits from the Birmingham Public Library.

Hi Melissa, Yes I am interested in the Mitchell family, Sam and Georgia Bradley, and Ireland. That is the only Ireland listed? There are suppose to be several there. Thanks for your help, Mary C. Backstrom

Melissa,

I saw your gracious offer to find ancestors in the Pratt City Fraternal Cemetery, and was hoping I could get the same? If you need any genealogy help here in the St. Louis area, I would be happy to reciprocate. My relative are Etienne and Marie Marion.

Sincerely,

I am very interested with this cemetary. It is beautiful place and deserves much better care than what it has received. I am a local here in BHAM, please contact me if anyone is interested in research and clean up of the cemetary. i am sure many locals have ancestors there.

I will check the listing I have at home. I have not been able to check the other transcriptions at the library as of yet... it has been a crazy month. To be sure I understand... the surname is MARION?
