Hoping some of y'all are still researching these Chandlers in
Jefferson Co,
AL. My dad was born in New
Castle and we have roots in the Chalkville area as well. Through DNA testing I find that I am really a
Chandler. So where did we come from and when was the paternal line changed from
Chandler to
Jernigan?
I am Group 7A in the Y-chromosome DNA Project of the
Chandler Family Association. Group 7A has been traced (through documentation as well as DNA) back to Robert
Chandler strongly believed to have been a grandson of John
Chandler who arrived in Jamestown aboard the ship
Hercules in 1610. My Family Tree DNA # is 109219. You can see my results on the project's web page under Group 7A. My earliest documented ancestor is my gg-grandfather, James
Silas Jernigan, whose origins remain a mystery.
Love to hear from anyone who might point me in the right direction.
