Looking for the obituary for William Henry Gayle/Gale.
William Gayle was both a carpenter and a minister. He served the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Franklin, Lincoln and Giles counties in Tennessee and in Jackson Co., Alabama. He performed marriages in Franklin Co. in 1848, 1849 and 1853, in Lincoln Co. in 1844, 1847, 1849, 1850, 1851, 1855, 1856 and in Giles Co. in 1856 and 1857. He performed marriages in Jackson Co., AL, in 1865, 1866, 1867 and 1868.
He died in 1873. Does anyone know where I can find an obituary for him. I am looking for the correct spelling of Demaris (France??) Gayle - Williams wife. She is my 4th great Grandmother and I cannot find any family history on her/her parents/ siblings/Etc.
The following obituary of William Gayle appeared in the "Alabama Herald" issue of 19 Sept. 1872: "Died at his residence in Paint Rock Valley on the 11th inst., Rev. William Gayle in the 73rd year of his age." "Wm Gale" is listed in the Mortuary Report of deceased ministers for the year 1873, in the records of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church Archives, Memphis, TN
I have contacted Cumberland Presb. Church Archives and they have found nothing other than minutes about William Gayle during church meetings. CAN ANYONE HELP??
