Jerry,
The McCoys in Sterne cemetery are my family. I live in Stevenson but my two brothersstill live in Yucca(South Coon, Coon Creek, Fabius) on the family land. We are the ones who take care of the graves. The McCoy family homestead burned in Nov. 1966. Everything had been documented in my grandfather & greatgrandfather's journals. So all of our proof went up in smoke. Some pictures and a few pieces furniture had been given to my dad & his sisters. We are proud of our Cherokee heritage. My grandmother always said that Eveline Keys McCoy's family was buried in the rocked off area at Sterne cemetery. Some have said her mother Mary "Polly" Riley Keys was buried at Caperton Cemetery. We think Sterne Cemetery was originally called Caperton.Sterne Cemetery is named as such because William Sterne (I believe he was killed in 1914) inherited the land from his mother who was a Caperton. His home is on the left side of the road as you pass the cemetery. His greatgrandson John Roper lives in it. Thank you for answering my post. As far as I know we are not related to Alexander McCoy. If I can be of any help let me know.
HIlda McCoy
