Looking for any information on Nathan Johnston b. 1790 in VA. married Nancy ?? also born in Va. Moved to Alabama before 1823 probably the Franklin Co. area. His child William Nathan was born in Ala. and lived there his entire life. William Nathan Johnston b. 1823 d. unk m. Nancy Rollins. Children are Martha, Peter, Sarah, Andrew, Matilda, Emelin, James, and Charles William.

Johnson's are found in 5 cems in The Black Warrior Forest.
Inter married with with Riddle and Parker and Garrison.

That is so much fun, having your relatives grave site as part of a park. Check the census on Winston and Lawrence Counties and Franklin County too. Next July 4 we have another Riddle reunion in Haleyville at the Pebble Comunity Center in Alabama. Stay at the Imperial Inn. Come and see the grave sites and meet about 150 relatives. Found William N Johnston on the census in Franklin Co., AL., 1850, 1880 and 1880 AG census. William N. Johnston is listed as Johnson the census. It is spelled with the "T". William N. has a daughter Martha Ann who never married to our knowledge. BLM records show he had land in Colbert Co.
Family says his father was Nathan of VA and mother Nancy unk. of VA. This is the brick wall. William is buried in a cemetary in Franklin I believe.

Note: That Moses Johnson was born 16 June 1745, and Moses died on 12 November 1812.
Note: Moses Johnson married Sary Powell.
Note: Sary Powell was born on Christmas on 25 December 1745, and she died on 1 October 1815.
Note: Sary Johnson is Lisa Riddles gr. gr. gr. gr. Grandmother.
Note: Sary Johnson's siblings were George Johnson, and Nancy Johnson.
Moses Johnson and Sary Powell's children were,
1. Sary Johnson was born on 1 March 1775. Sara Johnson is Lisa Riddles Fifth linage grandmother. Husband of Sara Johnson is John Riddle.
2. George Johnson was born on 26 July 1780.
3. Nancy Johnson was born on 5 June 1782. Nancy Johnson died on 9/14/1814.
4. James Johnson was born on July 3 1784.
5. Abigail Johnson was born on 20 June 1786.
6. John Johnson was born on 19 November1788.
7. Moses Johnson was born on 14 June 1793.
8. Lee Johnson was born on 25 January 1795.

We have since found Nathan Johnston listed in the 1850 census as Nashon Johnson with wife Nancy, his age is 60. We have also found evidence of a Nathan Johnston in Madison Co., AL. He purchased supplies at a store. I have not seen the Madison 1830 and 1840 census. A cousin said that there is a Nathan Johnston listed as living in Madison same age with wife and child. We know at one time there were Johnston relatives in the Madison Co., area.

The two oldest James and John was bound out in Montgomery County Court, but Happy married William Ingraham and they came to Lee County, Virginia and then to Hawkins, John Married Moses Johnson daughter Mary according to tax records they may have come with them.
Ten children were born to William 1745-1781 and Happy Rogers 1750-1795 Riddle according to this research, The oldest believed to be Moses was hung with William, but only seven have been identified. Six of these children were believed born in Montgomery County, Va., Thomas, the last child may have been born on Riddle Knob in Wilkes County, NC. This area today is in Watauga County, about eight miles north of Boone. (1) James Riddle b. 1773 in Montgomery County, Virginia, married circa 1795 to Sarah Davis of Lee County, Virginia. Shadrack Monk purchased land on the north side of Clinch River on Big Ridge 31 December 1808 from William Cope and the heirs of George Hurd. I am a descendant of John and Sarah (Johnson) Riddle.

I have it that John is the son of William Thomas "Tory" Riddle and Harriet "Happy" Rogers/Roberts Riddle.

Many believe that John's grandfather, who would be William's dad, was Moses Riddle, but this has not been proven. A William Riddle appears next to a Moses Riddle on the 1767 Pittsylvania County, VA tax list where Moses is listed as being Indian. Moses is thought to be the same Moses listed in a 1755 Granville County, NC tax list with his wife Mary. Both of them are listed as mulattos, which most likely meant they were part Indian and part white.
