The
DRURY COX WHITEHEAD mentioned in Mr. Mize's reply is listed in Todd's First
Alabama Cavalry: Homage to Patriotism, page 383. Whitehead enlisted at age 33 at
Glendale, MS in January 1863; he was a private in Company B; he was a
POW in October 1863 (Vincent's Crossroad); and he was musted out in Memphis, TN, in January 1864. Todd also has this additional information about Whitehead:
"Drury H.Cox
WHITEHEAD was born September 5, 1831 in
Lauderdale Co., AL, and was the youngest son of
Archibald and Nancy
Smith WHITEHEAD. In 1852 he married Mary Jane Anthony and they made their home in the Fayette/Marion Co., AL, area where they raised thirteen children. He was arrested by Confederate Conscript Officers but later escaped and joined the 1st
AL Cav US. He died April 2, 1914 at age 83 and is buried in the Morris Family Cemetery near Glen Allen,
Fayette Co., AL."
