It looks as though the Smith family is a strong and powerful family in Fayette County. I am particularly interested in James Smith & David Smith, both of whom appear in the 1830 census schedule of Fayette Co., AL.

I have reason to believe that these are my ancestors who had relocated to Fayette County from Hamilton Co., TN to escape the Trail of Tears. Both of my Smith ancestors, James and David, were Cherokee Indians who chose to live as white men in order to escape the removal.
