Need Death Certificate for Mary Ann Hopper

Doesn't have to be certified. Mary Ann was born in Georgia to John W. and Mary Womack Nov 1857 married Marion M. Hopper (son of Goulder Fields and Charlotte T. Robbins) in 1885. She died on 14 Nov 1943 in Altoona, Etowah County, AL. I checked on ancestry.com and the search pilot for LDS, no listing for her in either place, but they are also missing some that already have hard copies of, so there is good reason to believe it should exist.

Just email me if you can get one, and I'll pay for copying and mailing. Thanks Susan

I am familiar with Maple Hill Cemetery Stroll. It is wonderful. The organizers of AWTT met with the organizers of Maple Hill for advice on how to be successful with our cemetery walk. Terry Hancock portrayed W. P. Hollingsworth as a Confederate soldier. He also spoke of his accomplishments and how he was loved by the people of Gadsden. This was the 1st year of AWTT and it is planned to be an annual event the 2nd Sunday in Oct.

'A Walk thru time', I didn't know about that! I live in Huntsville so am not in touch with local news. Thats a nice event, there is something perhaps of that nature in Huntsville's Maple Hill cemetery, Folks dress up in period costumes and tell historical stories. My father, also William Perry Hollingsworth, died last year and is buried next to his grandfather. Since his passing, I have become quite involved in researching family history, and in doing so, Gadsden history.
Lee

This summer I had a chance to visit Gadsden and I found the Nichols Memorial Library. I only got to spend a couple of hours there because it was time for it to close. Everyone there was so nice and helpful. I had a chance to meet Nancy and she let me copy a page about my Burgess family that she had submitted on behalf of Glenn Abbott in East Gadsden. It gave a lot of detail on the children of Lemuel and Mary, including my great grandmother. It just did not mention any of the siblings for the parents. I had not thought about emailing her and asking if there was a newspaper obit. Thanks for the idea.

Etowah county was originally called Baine County and was created in 1867. It remained Baine county for nearly a year and then the name was changed to Etowah county. Prior to 1867 you would have to look at one of the six counties that made up parts of Etowah county for any kind of records.

The only mention of Samuel S. Kelly in the Etowah county probate records is that he was administrator of the estate of Elizabeth Landrum in Febuary of 1870.

I do not have access to any birth records. The Alabama Dept. of Health began birth certificates in 1908 but they were not required by law until 1920 or so. Another option would be a delayed certificate of birth. Many people had to file one when the Social Security Administration was created in abt. 1934. Either way you will have to fill out a request with the ADPH with a search fee of $12.00

I remember Case Oorschott when I was a child, he was a small man (refered to as the "Ducthman") he smoked a long stem pipe and wore a cap and worked in his nursery from daylight to dark. I don't know about his first wife but his secod wife was Grace Woods (this marriage only lasted a few weeks). After he retired in the late 40's or early 50's he sold the nursey busness and moved to the interchange of AL 77 and US411 and built several small rental houses. He later married a lady from Holland Who had been married to a Wygann. To my knowledge he had no children but his last wife had one son.

Thnks for responding. Do you know why he came to Rainbow City? He arrived in 1912 from Holland and in 1918 when he filled his WWI registration card out he was in Philadelphia, PA working for Remington Arms, possibly helping to make guns to supply the troops. Then I can't find him until 1930 when he is living in Rainbow City.

Do you know what type of flowers he raised? This is my major interest. You can contact me at Fallonfox@aol.com. I live in Rainbow City.

Thank you! I actually found the picture of Gordon Oliver I wanted. Ends up it was on the State Department of Archives and History website as part of the Gold Star book that never was published.

However, if either of you will still share information and pictures with me, I would be forever greatful. Granted, I am a descendent of Burrell (Birl, Burl, I've seen it spelled so many ways!) Gilliland's stepmother Susan Washburn Gilliand. Still, even though his descendants are "halfs" they are all still relatives, dang it. :) :) :)

Here's a neat little twist to end this post. I found out a few wweeks ago that a lady who goes to my church is actually Gordon Oliver's niece! I never knew her maiden name was Gilliland until now! How genealogy can whop you over the head sometimes, LOL.

Thanks!
Niki

I recently found out that my grandmother, EMMA ELIZABETH PHILLIPS, was married to a man named DEE RUSSELL before she married my grandfather, GRADY WASHINGTON DAVIS, SR. Does anyone know who this person is? Are there any records or photos? Very curious as my grandmother never mentioned him.

Any help appreciated!

Betsy Davis
Menepop@aol.com

Years are approximate, but these years don't seem to be available at the Alabama Dept. of Healh, Ancestry.com or the ADAH. Anyone know where they may be located?
