I am not a direct descendant of
Lawson Hopper and Malinda
Fields, but I do have a number of kin that married into that family. Their daughter, Dicey Ellen
Hopper married Thomas B. Nix the son of
Tyre Nix and Lettice
Holden. And there are other connections between the two families. Lawson and Malinda are both burried at
Sauls Cemetery in
Warrior River Valley section of Altoona,
Etowah County. Lawsons parents are John
Lawson Hopper and Sarah
Hobbs. He was born abt 1773 in
Virginia and died 20 April 1815 in New
Orleans Louisana. My asssumption is that he was serving with General
Jackson in the war of 1812, but I have not completed that research. I have
Lawson born 5 Dec 1804 in Oglethoarpe County,
Georgia, which was not Indian teritory at that time. He died 1880 when living at Boxtel,
Etowah County, and he is buried at
Sauls Cemetery. Boxtel is located on the Altoona side of the railroad tunnel through
Blount Mountain, and was the train stop for persons living in
Warrior River Valley, and also the
Gallant and Greasy
Cove areas. I have
Lawson in St
Clair County in 1830, in
Blount County in 1850 and 1860 and
Etowah County in 1870. But the area where he lived was
Blount County until Etowah was formed so he may have lived in both counties without moving.
Lawsons grandparents are George
Hopper Jr., I do not know his grandmother. His gg-grandparents I have as George and Catherine Hopper; born in
Virginia and died in
North Carolina.
I will share all the information I have with you with the understanding that the connections to my family are better sourced than some of the other families. But I will also share all the proof that I have collected.
