I've found Stephen In Precinct 7, Escambia Co, FL on the 1880 census with his wife, Mary (Bilberry?), and children.

He's in houhehold 205/217 (image 21 of 28 @ Ancestry.com's online census images):

Stephen was the son of Morris Franklin & Jane Sims and the grandson of Mark (Martin) Franklin & Nancy Ann Stapleton of Butler Co, AL (my husband's GGGgrandparents). Would dearly love to make contact with one of Stephen's descendants.
