Hello Jackie -
Sorry for the delay in replying. We've been gone quite a lot lately.
Let's see. I know I have more information on Mary's family, but haven't input everything into my file. It's in my To-Do Box. I've wandered off on my Carruth line at the moment.
I can immediately give you some information, though. Hope it is helpful. Just jumped back to my sources on Stephen.
Per Ancestry.com's Alabama Marriages, 1800-1920, they married 24 Dec 1866 in Butler Co, AL. That's where all his Franklin family was found.
Stephen & wife, Mary Bilberry, are buried at Weaver Cemetery, 6216 Appleton Rd, Brewton, Escambia Co, AL. Two of their children are buried with them (according to the 1880 census, both are boys - as I recall). And then there's another who's a WWII vet - probably a grandchild - but I'm uncertain of his exact relationship to Stephen & Mary:
Henry Lee Franklin
Fla CMM USNR
WORLD WAR II
Mar 30, 1897 - Mar 29, 1968
Jesse T. Franklin [son of Stephen M Franklin & Mary Bilberry]
Jan 26, 1880 - Aug 25, 1928
Mary A. Franklin [Mary Bilberry m Stephen M Franklin 27 Dec 1866 Butler Co, AL]
Feb 28, 1851 - Jan 16, 1903
Nettie Cain Franklin
Sep 17, 1897 - Dec 10, 1968
[listed as a son on the 1880 census; need to look at other census records to make sure this wasn't just an error by the enumerator]
Stephen M. Franklin
Sep 18, 1848 - Jan 7, 1936 [son of Morris Franklin & Jane Sims; grandson of Mark (Martin) Franklin & Nancy Ann Stapleton]
Stephen enlisted in Co D 33rd AL Inf in Nov 1863. This is the unit that Franklin & Burkett uncles served in. Believe he enlisted after his father Morris' death (which I think occurred in Sep of 63). Morris served in Co B 39th AL Inf.. I'm convinced that the Morris Franklin buried in Block B, Row 6, Space 1, Confederate Section, Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta, Fulton Co, GA is Stephen's father. He was listed as being in Co B, 29th GA Inf, died 2 Sep 1863 unknown hospital in Atlanta. I think he was incorrectly listed as being in the 29th GA - either that or he was with them somehow at the time of his death. Need to firm this up for myself; at the moment it's just a very strong gut feeling.
Back to Stephen, the ADAH (Alabama Dept of Archives & History) Civil War Service Database has 4 records on him:
