Someone posted message saying that the old Central Institute building still stands as part of the Central Bapt church. As a gt gt g-dau of the founder of the school, E.S. Walkley, I was always told that the building burned during the civil war because Walkley was from 'Connecticut. He sent sons off to War but apparently that made no difference. Allegedly all that was left of the school was the marble steps which were removed to the home of Walkley's dau, Mrs. Wideman of Central. His home stood during my childhood.
I would like much to receive copy of pix of the remaining building. Will reimburse.
BTW, I have extant copy of the school records of Walkley gibving names of students and families that supported.
