Was there ever a town named Bagnechitta in Dallas County? There is an 1855 publication of U.S. postmasters that lists my ancestor, Lewis Baggett, as the postmaster of Bagnechitta, Dallas County, AL. If this town didn't exist, any thoughts or alternatives will be appreciated. Thank you.

I think you are looking for Boguechitto. Boguechitto Creek runs approximately north to south in the western portion of Dallas County, and empties into the Alabama River just upstream of the Dallas / Wilcox County Line. There is a community named Bogue Chitto about six miles northwest of Orrville, and there is a Boguechitto campground area near the Alabama River south of Orrville.
