I stopped and read a historical marker today in Perry, Texas (Falls County) on Highway 6 between Waco and Bryan.

"Tennessee native Albert G. Perry (1807-1874) began the study of law at age 16 in his brother's Alabama law office. He became a successful attorney, but in 1831 left for Texas, settllingin Washington, where he opened a law office....In 1883, when the railroad bypassed the community of Peyton, a new settlement developed along trhe rail line and was named Perry in honor of Albert G. Perry."

An interent source for Texas history states that he was born in Knowville, TN and lived in Selma, Alabama (where his lawyer brother lived) before moving to Texas. His father-in-law Jesse Grimes was a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence.
