Susie, I hope you are still reading this thread since I just found this! I have hit a brick wall with my family history and plan to visit Conecuh County next month (Sept 2014) for research.

My 2nd great-grandfather was William H Coker and George Nathaniel Coker, Sr is from he & his 2 nd wife, Sarah Patterson. I have several census records showing W H Coker as a physician in Conecuh County. My 2nd great-grandmother was Sarah Elizabeth Coker (her mother was Sarah E Hawthorne) & she died in 1866. Coker married Sarah Patterson in 1867 and they had George in 1868.

Do you know who W H Coker's parents were? I am frustrated to have multi generations on other branches of my tree but cannot get beyond my Conecuh 2nd great-grandparents! I have Sarah E Hawthorne's parents wrong according to what I have read on this board, also.

I would appreciate any suggestions before my trip as to the best places for research, etc. I know the courthouse is in Evergreen but don't know of other local sources.

Thank you so much!
