This Jefferson Hollinger, from the 1880 Census for Belleville, Conecuh, Alabama:

was my great-great-great grandfather. He is listed as mulatto in the census, and we believe him to be part Creek Indian. As you see, he was born around 1825. I see a lot of posts flying around about another Jefferson Hollinger from over in Baldwin County, who appears to have been born around 1810. He was 15 years older, and also believed to be part Creek Indian, though he was actually considered white.

I'm curious to find out whether these two Jeffersons had anything to do with one another. I'm interested in connecting with descendants of both.

I'm also very curious to find out whether any of the wealthy slave owning Hollingers families in Conecuh, Monroe, or Mobile kept personal slave records that could possibly tell me more about my family.

Thanks

I'm also noticing that the elder Jefferson Hollinger appears in the 1840 census for Conecuh County, where my great-great-great grandfather Jefferson Hollinger also lived.

Being classified as "mulatto" in the census posted previously, it is apparent that my Jefferson was part White. As there are many light-skinned relatives in my family, among his descendants, we have always suspected this.

Could the elder Jefferson have possibly fathered my Jefferson, obviously out of wedlock?
