Wow, is this confusing. I've been researching the Gatsey Fleming line but know nothing of her parents. Sure wish I did. I'm winging it now and should really wait till I have some notes in front of me, but while I think of it, I wanted to put in my 2 cents worth. There were about 3 Gatsey's in that area. But Gatsey b. abt. 1819 GA( I also have Dale Co., AL) d. 1897 Geneva Co. AL. She was m. to James M. Weeks b. 1817 GA. d. 1879 Geneva Co., AL( 1860 census says S.C.!). They m. 1837. I have a copy her Claim of Widow and Service Pension papers. She lists her maiden name as Fleming. For a long time, I was going on the assumption that Gatsey was Gassaway's sister. I'd sure have to think about that one again! Anyway, the 1860 Fed. Census lists James and Gatsey their children are: Polly A. ( aka Mary Ann Weeks) 18, Caroline 15, Joseph 13,Eliza 8, Sabitha (Tabitha) 6 and Elizabeth 2.12. We were left a note by a family member prior to his death in which he referred to Gatsey as " Indian Sheep Woman". Sure wish I knew what that meant. She had no sheep, I understand. If you'd like a copy of the Pension papers, let me know and I'll send them. In the meantime, if you discover anything, I'd sure like to hear it. Thank you and good luck with your research. Suzanne
