Muscadine School?

I am researching an ancestor, Edward Shabel, who in the 1930 Federal Census was listed in Muscadine, Alabama as a teacher at a public school.

Anyone have any tips or information on what school(s) would exist around this time and/or where to obtain records?

Thanks,

Josh

My mother grew up in the Muscadine area of Cleburne County, AL, from 1933 to her high school graduation in 1951. I have dozens, maybe even hundreds, of relatives buried around there. I don't have access to all my records right now, but you might find some useful information to get you started at the following website:

Also: from cleburneschools.net,
Cleburne County Board of Education
93 Education Street
Heflin, AL 36264
Phone (256)463-5624
FAX (256)463-5709

I know that some of the place names near Muscadine include Abernathy, Oak Level, Lebanon, Fruithurst, and Edwardsville. The county seat is Heflin. Muscadine is also very close to the Georgia state line, with Tallapoosa being the closest town. Your Shabel relative might have gone to church or voted, etc., in any of these places.

FYI, if you're not familiar with the area: US 78 is the old highway that connected the communities; it parallels I-20 between Atlanta and Birmingham.

I'd love to know if any of this helps. Good luck!
