NOTES for William P. Ragan:
It appeared from this writer’s Ragan/Reagan family, genealogical and historical research, the marriage bond for William P. Ragan in Washington County, Tennessee is lost. The county clerk of Washington County, Tennessee in those days seemed to be bit careless in keeping the public records.
Upon attaining the legal age to witness the land records by law, William P. Ragan must be of legal age (21 years) when he first appeared as one of three witnesses to the deed dated 06 Feb 1812 between Jeremiah Ragan and Jacob Hoss for the tract of land on Cherokee Creek in Washington County, Tennessee.
On 14 Jan 1829, there is a deed between Jeremiah Ragan of Washington County, Tennessee, and James Thompson of Greene County, Tennessee at the Register of Deeds office in Washington County Courthouse, Jonesborough, Washington County, Tennessee. In that description of land in the deed, it mentioned “... to a stake in the lane on a line of William P. Reagan divided portion of land ...” on the watershed of Cherokee Creek in Washington County, Tennessee. It indicated that William P. Ragan was still living there.
On 21 Jan 1837, there is power of attorney recorded in Deed Book 21 of Washington County, Tennessee for William P. Reagan. He have appointed John C. Harris as his lawful attorney to sell a tract of land containing 65 1/2 acres on Cherokee Creek in Washington County, Tennessee. The deed dated 20 Jan 1837 is as follows:
“Deed Book, Page 162
“January 20, 1837
“This Indenture made between John C. Harris, attorney for William P. Reagan of the one part, and William Dosser of the other part, both of Washington County, Tennessee ... in consideration of $525.00 ... conveyed a certain part of a tract of land in Washington County on Cherokee Creek ... said land by a Deed of Gift from his father ... joins Jefferson Range ... Simpson ... white oak a corner of John C. Harris ... containing 65 1/2 acres ... “

**Please note that this William Dosser was married on 14 Nov 1820 in Washington County, Tennessee to Malinda Ragan, daughter of Jeremiah Ragan,Jr. and granddaughter of Jeremiah Ragan,Sr. He was elected for two years term as Sheriff of Washington County, Tennessee during 1836-1838.**
Sometime after 1830 and before 1835, William P. Ragan and his family migrated to the State of Alabama from Washington County, Tennessee.
He and his family were listed in 1840 Federal Census of Randolph County, Alabama. It is as follows:

William P. Ragan was listed as the head of household in 1850 and 1860 Federal Census of Randolph County, Alabama.
NOTE: Clay County, Alabama was taken off from Randolph County, Alabama on 07 Dec 1866. So, it clearly showed to this writer that the original lands of William P. Ragan from U. S. Government was actually now lies in Clay County, Alabama.
There are two probate files for the Estate of William P. Ragan in Clay County, Alabama.
FIRST: As it appeared from the first probate file dated -- Nov 1878, Samuel McCollough, son-in-law of William P. Ragan had stated in the petition to Clay County, Alabama Probate court that he had died without last will and testament in “1867” there. And , at his death, he had both personal and real estate. So, he had asked for the Letter of Administraton bond. And, Samuel McCollough had listed the heirs of William P. Ragan In that petition to Clay County, Alabama Probate court too. And, he was granted the Letter of Administration by Clay County, Alabama Probate Court to administer the estate of William P. Ragan.
SECOND: As it appeared from the second probate file dated on 20 May 1889, A. T. Reagan, grandson of William P. Ragan had filed the petition to Clay County, Alabama that the estate of William P. Ragan had not been settled to the satisfaction of the heirs at that time. And, A. T. Reagan, grandson of William P. Ragan, had listed the heirs (children and grandchildren) of William P. Ragan too. So, Clay County, Alabama Probate Court had issued another Letter of Administration bond to settle the estate of William P. Ragan finally. So, the final outcome had not been ascertained on this matter.
