John A. Collins of Clarke County, Mississippi (1774-1865)

Classification: Query
Surnames: Collins, Blackwell, Kornegay, Long, Whatley
Mary Ann Collins Blackwell entered a sworn affidavit in Choctaw County, Alabama 6 June 1883 that was part of her step-mother's application for pension regarding Mary's father John A. Collins' War of 1812 service. In this affidavit, Mary presented her father's family Bible from which two leaflets were copied. The affidavit text reads: "Affiant further swears that she is now, and has been ever since the death of her said father, the sole custodian of his family Bible, a leaf from which she has detached and attaches the same hereto... Afffiant is unable to state who made the several entries on the leaf except she believes they were made by different persons, but she knows that the entry on page one of this leaf.. was made by her father, the said John A. Collins in the words and figures following "J.A. Collins was born June 21, 1774 and joined the church in the 86 year of his age."

There are two copied Bible leaflets. Some I have confirmed as family (Collins and Blackwell), but there are a few that I am unable to determine why they would be in John A. Collins' Bible:
Robert Arnel Kornegay
Mary Ann Kornegay
William H. Long
Sarah Jain Long
Elizabeth Purline Long
James Haris Long
Josiah G. Whatley

I have located all of these people on census records, but I have yet to determine if there is any family connection between them and the Collins family. If anyone has any ideas, please post them. Thank you!
