1900 Cherokee County, AL Census index: Griffith, Leonadus D., Gaylesville Precinct, Page: bottom of 171-B and top of 172-A.

Surname could be Griffith or Griffitts; writing is not clear enough to distinguish. I have used Griffitts in reporting the census data below.

Griffitts, Leonadus D., head, Jan 1841, 59, md 38 yrs, AL TN TN, farmer
Sarah P., wife, May 1841, 59, md 38 yrs, 13 children born, 9 living, AL SC AL
Robert L., son, May 1861, 39, single, AL AL AL, carpenter
Laura A., daughter, Dec 1862, 37, single, AL AL AL, teacher
Thomas P., son, June 1866, 33, single, AL AL AL, farmer
David E. (E looks almost like C), son, Jan 1868, 32, single, AL AL AL, mechanic
Lella A, daughter, Oct 1871, 28, single, AL AL AL, Teaching
Sallie L., daughter, June 1876, 23, single, AL AL AL
Lula C., daughter, Mch? 1878, 22, single, AL AL AL, in school, attended school 9 months of previous 12.
Mary G., daughter, June 1880, 19, single, AL AL AL, zero months in school
Charles H., son, Feb 1883, 17, single, AL AL AL, at school, 5 mos in school
Bessie L., grandaughter (as spelled), Jan 1890, 10, single, AL AL AL, at school, 6 mos in school
Nettie/Nellie B., grandaughter, Dec 1894, 5, single, AL AL AL, 2 mos in school

Based on this info and what you provided earlier, Bessie and Nettie/Nellie are most likely the children of Robert and Ella, however Ella likely died around 1897 in childbirth or shortly thereafter.

Thank you,.Bessie and Nettie were the children of Robert L. and Ella Griffitts. There also was Robbie born in 1901. I don,t know why Ella is not listed or Robert is listed as single. She is listed in the 1920 Rome Ga. census as a widow. She died in Miami in 1944.I have been unable to find when Robert died, perhaps they are listed in the 1910 census if you have it available I would appreciate your checking. Thanks again

There is no 1890 Cherokee Co census. Most of the US census for that year was destroyed in a warehouse fire/flood and data for only a few counties in a few states were saved. For Alabama there was only a small portion of Perry County recovered.

I checked the 1908-1959 AL death index and found 6 John Kinney listings.
John D Kinney 28 Mar 1911 Mobile
John Kinney 05 Aug 1912 Greene
John F. Kinney Oct 1924 Colbert
John T. Kinney Apr 1924 Mobile
John Kinney Aug 1926 Colbert
John W Kinney 08 Sep 1940 Marshall
