Does anyone have information on when Rev. Joel Weems of Cherokee County, AL was committed as a "Lunatic" to the asylum in Tuscaloosa, AL? He was an ordained Methodist minister; born April 20, 1808 in Franklin County, GA; died at the asylum April 17, 1885.

The Rev. Joel C. Weems b. 4/20/1808 died at Pleasant Gap, Spring Garden, Cherokee Co., AL on 4/17/1885. He was the son of Redfern Weems b. 1774, d. 16 March 1848 and Elizabeth Prickett b. 1775, d. 1845. Redfern was the son of Thomas Scot Weems Jr. I have further information if you would like to share. I my place of death is wrong, I still believe that this is the Joel Weems you are looking for.

I believe he is buried in the area I gave you but have not personally visited site to verify. My information gave reason for commitment as depression. I will try to call tomorrow or Friday and will post what I find out.
