Hi, I've been looking for the family of George
Hollenshead and
Charity Scott for several years. Their daughter Nancy Melissa, b. 3 Dec 1839, d. 6 Jan 1829, in
Madison County,
AL, was my g-great grandmother. She married James N. Kennedy and lived at
Newmarket. Her sister, Octavia Franklin, married James' brother, Joseph
Kennedy. Charity remarried to William Green, they are listed in the 1850 BluePond,
Cherokee Co, census: Wm Green, 56, SC;
Charity, 40, SC; Margaret, 16, SC; and Francis, 9, SC. Margaret and Francis (m) were children of Wm. Green. Nancy,
Mahala, and Elizabeth were living with 3 families in
Jackson and
Madison counties in 1850 - Jacob
Crews (
Cruse),
Elijah Mattews and William Scott. I didn't find Octavia in 1850. I've searched diligently for Sarah Hollenshed for quite some time. In the 1860 census: Wm "Greenn", 69, SC; "Caroline" (Actually
Charity), 50, SC; Francis N., 21 (m), SC; Octava Hollinand, 16, SC (Actually her daughter born in
Cherokee Co,
AL). You do know
Charity was Cherokee Indian, don't you? I located the original land request at the National Archives when
Charity got land for her daughters for George's military service. I passed copies to Hollenshed cousin's who published it. Anyone researching this family, please contact me at your earliest convenience. M. Griggs
