Long/Hendrix Marriage?

Is anyone still able to check marriage records? I am looking for the marriage of Phillip D. Long to Florida E. Hendrix in Cherokee County. The marriage would have taken place sometime after the 1880 Census and the year 1885.

Thank you in advance.

I checked the Cherokee county marriage records from 1882-1930 and the marriage was not listed. The courthouse burned in May of 1882 and all the marriage records before that date were destroyed. I have transcribed the Cherokee county marriages listed in the Gadsden Times from 1867 to May of 1882 and the marriage was still not shown. I also checked the Etowah county marriages and it wasnt there. Sorry I couldnt be of more help. Perhaps they were married in Floyd county, Ga. and you can try there.

John,

Thank you so much for checking for me, and so quickly! If only our other genealogical endeavors could transpire so quickly. I guess we wouldn't have anything to do, then.

Have checked the Polk County, GA Marriage Records and they were not listed.
Where did the bride live before the marriage? Many times they would get married in the county where the bride lived, unless they ran away to get married. In that case they could have got married almost anywhere.

Thank you Doris. They both lived in Cherokee, Alabama. They are just a few census pages away from each other in 1880. I believe they must have been married before 1882, as it looks like one of their children may have been born in 1882 and one was definitely born in 1884.

They settled in Arkansas. Their daughter, my great great grandmother, was born in 1886 in Howard County, Arkansas. I don't know where the other children were born, but I believe they were in Arkansas by 1884.

When Philip died, Florida remarried and is in Delta County, Texas for the 1900 census. I have her family information. But I know nothing about Philip, except that he is in Cherokee Alabama in 1880 working as a farm hand for JM Bobo and is listed as P.D. Long bn. 1858, TN.

Since the Courthouse burned, about your only hope would be to find a Family Bible or other document that has the marriage date.
Have several family members that married in Cherokee County, AL before 1882 and can not document their marriages. Only one had a Family Bible that survived to give us the marriage date.
