Amariah and Margaret Swanner - AL to TX wagon train about 1867

Amariah Swanner was reportedly part of a 40 some-odd wagon train that departed Alabama in 1867. Amariah and wife Margaret Davis were listed as living in Butler Co, AL in August of 1866 in probate records of Pike County (Margaret had close kin living in Pike County). The wagons were reportedly abandoned in Louisiana due to flooding and some members of the party made their way to Galveston by boat. Amariah registered his cattle brand in Coryell County Texas in 1870. He settled on land bordering Cowhouse Creek about 14.5 miles southeast of Gatesville. The Swanners were in Stephens County, Texas by 1880.

I have not been able to locate the family in the 1870 census. Searching for information on the families that accompanied the Swanners on the wagon train/boat travel to Texas.

Hi Freda, I'm trying to connect the/my Fishers with the Sills & DePughs/Depues/DePuys/Pugh families. Do you know of any connections in your line, of Fishers to Sills or Pughs/DePughs? I have a Fisher cousin who has DePue/Depugh ancestors who married into his line of Fishers, which trace back to John W. Fisher, b. 1872, Mauch Chunk, Carbon Co., PA. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Marshall

Hi - I'm searching for Thomas W Smith who served in the US Navy with my Dad in Shanghai China, in 1945-46. The name of the Ship they were on was the U.S.S. Repose (AH-16) He remembers that Thomas was from Alabama, and he shared a great story about the time they were on Liberty and decided to go to Treasure Island together to drink milk of all things...they both missed drinking milk!

If you have any information or this story sounds familiar, please contact me... I would love to surprise my Dad and find someone with photos and stories that they can share.

Thank you,
Margaret

Hi Bev: No, it's not the same Susannah Northcutt. She was in Butler Co., AL and remained there as she had substantial family there.

There is however a book on the Kentucky branches of the Northcutt family by Dolly Northcutt, if you can find it. It basically is an unpublished manuscript and is in the DAR Library. Not sure where else.

Thanks though.

I don't believe so. I'm sure that's another branch. If I am remembering correctly, a cousin of mine, who used to live in Meridian said there was another Northcutt family there to whom they were not directly related. I believe this other Northcutt family came out of the TN branches. Ours came out of the SC lines.

Hello
I am researching my wife's family from Butler county, her great great grandparents were Daniel G Payne ( 1829- ) and Lucinda Emmett Payne ( 1835 - ) and lived in Butler county. I have found them in census records. I came across a death notice of one of there sons, Daniel L Payne ( 1856 - 1857 ) . He says he was buried in " Old cemetery, center of Greenville, near Methodist Church, Butler County". Does anyone know the name of this cemetery? We are trying to find out where Daniel and Lucinda are buried.
Thanks for any information.

Gary

I don't have any in my tree. However, I checked my FTDNA Family finder results, and there are 3 remotely related individuals who have Ballard in their ancestry. If you will message me privately i will give you their names if you would like them.

I haven't been on this lineage lately, but I don't think that Jame/John Reuben Ealum is the immigrant, but most likely the one who angelized the spelling to 'Ealum'.

I am interested in what you find, and would let you know that I have 'Elam' ancestors back in England, and I think both lineages are connected! We should be working for an account for all the Elam immigrants that came to this country, that would be a good start!

David

Mr. Blocher,

I'm one of the Granddaughters of Lue Eria Ealum and James T. Ealum Senior, and I'm really interested in finding out who our immigrant ancestor is. So consider me a part of this expedition.

I'm going to get some records of immigrants, from Virgina and the Carolinas, which have the names Elam or Ealum, and we can see what we come up with. I will be searching for those records, very soon.

Since the name isn't a common one, we can search the will entries of every Ealum/Elam, who came through the ports in the Carolinas and Virginia, during the proper time range. The wills should show if there is a John Reuben Ealum, or men with a similar family name.

Ealums have the habbit of passing names on for generations. For instance, some of the names passed on for generations are: James, Thomas, Samuel, and Solomon. This will help us narrow things down.

Right now it is like looking for a needle in a hay stack, but through process of elimination, we will find what we are looking for.

Regards,

Elizabeth Laurie
