Mark (Martin) Franklin & Nancy Ann Stapleton are my husband's 3rd Ggrandparents. A transcription of their Bible done in the 1950's reads in part:
"Born to Granderson Parker and his wife Mary Parker
Legrand Parker born October 9, 1832
William Parker born September 11, 1834
Arthur A Parker born September 26, 1836"
Belinda Jacks & I think that the only reason this particular Parker family appear in the transcription is because they are somehow related to Mark & Nancy.
I've quickly looked at Parkers in Butler Co on census records today & have found the following family with a Granderson Parker:
John Parker b 1800 SC married to Charity b 1810 SC (have seen her maiden name given online as Burkett but uncertain if this is correct)
Children:
1. Benjamin b 1832 AL
2. Mary 1836 AL
3. John L b bet 1838-1839 AL and married to M. --. Children:
Granderson b 1859 AL and Tisdale b 1861 AL
4. Matilda b 1840 AL
5. Malinda b 1842 AL
6. Prudence b 1843 AL (could be same female as either Malinda or Martha)
7. Martha b 1844 AL
8. William b 1846 AL
9. James B b 1848 AL and married to Eugenia Sellers. Have seen him referred to on this board as James Burkett Parker. Children: Daniel P (T?) b 1873 AL, Lula b 1875 AL, William b 1877 AL, and May b 1879 AL
10. Sarah b 1849 AL
John & Charity & their children are in household 817/817 Beat 8 on the 1850 Butler Co, AL census.
Arthur Parker, wife Mary, & family are in Beat 2 of Butler Co on the same census.
The 1840 Butler Co census shows 6 Parkers:
Arthur, Benj., Eldridge, John, S. B., and William.
In 1830 there are 4 Parkers in Butler Co:
Benjamin, David, John, and "John Parker son". (Haven't looked at this page yet; just going by search results).
I'm thinking that the John listed from 1830-70 is the same person - the husband of Charity (widowed in 1880).
Do you know any of the people listed in the transcription from Mark & Nancy's Bible? Can you tell me if the Parker men listed in the 1830 & 40 census are related, and if so, how?
Is the name Legrand or Granderson familiar to you at all?
Any and all help much appreciated as I'm scratching my head on this one!
