I'm looking for information on Mary A. Thomas Sims. She was born in 1865 and she married Andrew Jackson Sims Jr. in 1884. I suspected, but can't yet prove, that she's the daughter of a Greenberry Jackson Thomas (I found an 1880 census record, but the name is fairly common). Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Kimberly, I was wondering if you know the person who owns the property where Gum Spring Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery is? Also known as Robert Chamblee family cemetery and Mt. Hope Primitive Baptist Cemetery. I found the directions in the Blount County cemetery book page 296. It says it is near Blountsville down CR 26. I live in Texas and would really like some pictures of this cemetery. I descend from Robert Chamblee and also James T. Barnes who is buried in this cemetery. Thanks so much, Kristi Tuttle texasblueflower@yahoo.com

I have found a Clear Springs United Methodist Church in Blount County, but I am not sure it is the one that you are looking for. It is in Township 13 South, Range 1 East, Section 32; About four miles SW of Allgood on Hi way 75 and then a quarter mile NW on County Road 15. That is about as far from Marshall County as you can get and stay in Blount. Maybe there is another Clear Springs in another County? There are no Morgan graves listed in the Blount County Clear Springs Cemetery.
Dalton

Staton/Slave-owners in Marshall or Blount County, Alabama

Hello. My name is Irene. I am trying to find old photos, names of slaves, stories, and any other record that you may have.

Unfortunately, several of my ancestors were slaves. Based on the 1860 Slave Census, I know that George Dameron (G.D) Staton (Sr. and Jr.) and Thomas W. Staton were slave-owners. Since they lived in the same area that my family grew up in and my family took the Slave-owner’s name, I am 99.9% positive that I have the right slave-owners names. My family started off spelling their name as Staton. It has been changed throughout the years: Staton, Statton, Statten, Staten

Please do not worry about politically correct.

Sincerely,
Irene
distaten@att.net

Hi, here is some more info for you.Martin St Clair and Ellen Hennessy had a daughter Mary Jane Baptised 11/5/1856 in St Peters and Pauls in Cork City. I have confirmed this info and it is correct. My branch of the St Clair family lives in Brown St in Cork City and they may have been related. I know for definate that William St Clair was born in Dublin circa 1844 and if you have any info on Martin's birthplace maybe it would confirm a relation. I have managed to confirm all my side of the tree so I will be moving on to other members. Regards

Elizabeth Hendrix Harris b. 1781 in Pendleton District SC; moved to Blount Co AL

I'm looking for information about Elizabeth Hendrix/Hendricks - she was born in 1781 in the Pendleton District area of South Carolina to James Hendrix & Frances Lea Hendrix. She married a man by the last name of Harris in South Carolina and had two daughters.

One daughter was Jane Harris, born 1814 in South Carolina; she married James Brown in Blount County in 1837, and died there in 1903. They had two children - Washington Brown & Elizabeth Harris Hendricks, wife of Samuel Hendricks.

The other daughter was Lucretia Harris, born 1812 in South Carolina; she married Joshua Ratliff in Blount County in 1841 and died before 1856. They had 6 children - William, Phereby, John, Lugana (?), James (my great grandfather), & Nancy.

I do not know when the family moved to Blount County - the first sighting of them is when daughter Jane married there in 1837. In the 1840 census, it appears that Elizabeth and Lucretia were living with Jane and James Brown.

Does anyone have any information on Elizabeth Hendrix's husband?

Carol

Hi Sean,

I'm just getting started on this line but will definitely let you know what I find. May I ask where you found Mary Jane's baptism?

There is a Martin St. Clair, age 50, on the 1881 British Census which may be the husband of Ellen. There is also a death record so I'm hoping it says more than "born in Ireland".

You've been very helpful... thank you so much.

I made an error... the Mother, Ellen St. Clair, is not a Widow on the 1881 Surrey, England Census.. she is recorded as Married. On the same census, her grson is named Martin St. Clair Mahoney - so the name Martin definitely runs in this family line as well.
I found 2 baptism records on www.familysearch.org

Eliza Jane St. Clair 11 December 1864, Cork, Cork, Ireland
Mary Teresa St. Clair 26 February 1866, Cork, Cork, Ireland
Parents: William St. Clair and Mary Ann Malone.

I, also, am looking for a St. Clair family from Co. Cork, Ireland. I believe the husband's name was Martin St. Clair and his wife was Ellen. Ellen is recorded on the 1881 Surrey, England Census, Widow, 50, born Co. Cork, living with her married daughter Mary Jane (St. Clair) Mahoney.

I wonder if these 2 families are related? Especially since you have William's father as "Martin".

Look forward hearing from you.

...namely Gordon Oliver Gilliland. I was up at the Nichols Library in Gadsden and found a form Burrel filled out in 1921 like it was for a biography of his son...whether in some book or newspaper I don't know. It said "picture enclosed," and I'm hoping a picture still exists that a family member will be kind enough to share it with me. I want to do a special write up for the book/website I'm planning that will include him. The only picture I have right now is the one on his tombstone which is faded beyond recognizing his face, though you do see his Navy uniform pretty clearly. (He died on 7 Oct 1918 at Norfolk Naval Hospital from pneumonia.)

If anyone can help with this request, I'd greatly appreciate it.
