      <description>I would like to contact a descendant of Martha A. R. Hill who married John Lofton Alexander. A fellow Hill researcher has published a Hill family history of the Thomas and Rebecca Rogers Hill family that gives detailed accounts of this family. Would like to talk with an Alexander descendant who is related to Martha Hill Alexander, the first wife of John Lofton Alexander.       <description>There are divorce books in the courthouse but the last time I checked it is very difficult to locate the correct book re date, etc.  These are not "probate" books.&lt;br&gt;Go to &lt;a href="http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~alautaug/" target="_blank"&gt;http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~alautaug/&lt;/a&gt; and you will find many references to your Nelsons in "Searchable Autauga County Records".  &lt;br&gt;I suggest you check those you are interested in and contact the Alabama Dept. of Archives and History for their research information.&lt;br&gt;</description>

      <description>Liberty Baptist Church is located 2315 US Hwy 31, Deatsville, AL 36022, Ph: 334-365-9720 &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Lat: 32° 36' 48"N, Lon: 86° 28' 49"W&lt;br&gt;T19N R16E Sec 20 &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The cemetery is on 31 North, beside CR 61 in North Autauga County AL.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;A. J. was born in a part of Autauga County which later became Baker County, and then changed to Chilton. I do not know the exact location.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;He married Bettie Mathews first, and second Katherine Green Moore.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I don't know the answer your other questions.  </description>

      <description>YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Services will be Thursday, May 16, 2013, at the Community Church of God for Mr. Adam Parker Jr., 76, who entered eternal rest on Friday, May 10, 2013, at his home with his family surrounding him.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Adam Parker Jr., also known as Hiawatha, was born on May 12, 1936, in Autaugaville, Alabama, the son of Adam and Eva Moten-Parker.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;He graduated from Campbell Memorial High School.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;In 1954, Adam married Frances Davis in Youngstown, Ohio and they shared 59 wonderful years of matrimony.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;After graduating from high school, Adam was employed at Youngstown Sheet and Tube Campbell Works. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;He then enlisted in the Army, where he was a drill sergeant in the 11th Airborne Battalion and served as a paratrooper. He also served during the Korean conflict. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;After returning form the service, he resumed his employment at Sheet and Tube. &lt;br&gt;He then began working at GATX as a welder-fitter. &lt;br&gt;During this period, Adam also owned his own hauling business. Adam later went on to work as a truck driver for Boardman Supply, until his retirement in 1998.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Adam was a faithful member of the Community Church of God, formerly known as the Himrod Church of God. He served as chairman of the Trustee Board, church treasurer, Deaconate Board member, choir member, Altar worker, Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and part of the bus ministry.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Adam leaves to forever cherish his memory, his wife, Frances Parker; three sons, Gregory (Connie) of Polson, Montana, Dwight Senior (Beverly) of Liberty, Ohio, and Darren (Mary) of Denton, Texas; two daughters, Lisa of Boardman, Ohio and Adrienne (Gary) of Columbus, OH; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;He also leaves his brother-in-law, Michael Randle of Youngstown, Ohio and uncle, K.C. Moten (Trula) of Detroit.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Eva Parker and three sisters, British Lee Parker.       <description>I am looking for information about Thomas W Nelson, b. 1812 Georgia, who married Nelly Johnson 19 Feb 1832 in Autauga Alabama.  He is the son of Daniel Nelson (listed in his will)and Joanna (possibly) Townsend.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;He is in the 1850 census with Ellender Nelson.  There is some confusion about his age as it is smudged.  It says he was born in Georgia, Ellender born in North Carolina.  Children listed are Robert 17; William 15; John 14; Joanna 12; Alexander 9; and Alford 7.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;But in the 1860 census Nelly is living with son Robert and his wife Nancy Johnson.  Thomas W Nelson is living in Holmes, Florida with a new wife (?) Martha (b. 1826 Alabama); Emily (b. 1853 Alabama) and Mary T (b. 1859 Florida).  Next door is Clara Davis (who also has children with the last name Brooks - some say it should be Westbrooks).&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The 1870 census has Thomas living in Geneva Alabama with yet another wife, the Clara Davis who lived next door in Florida:  Clara Nelson, b. 1826 South Carolina; Mary T (b. 1859); Susan E (b. 1851); and these Davis chldren:  James E (b. 1854); Reuben (b. 1852); Margaret (b. 1856).&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Thomas W Nelson is listed in his father's estate papers as heir, living in Geneva Alabama.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Are there any divorce records in Autauga between 1850 - 1852?&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;  &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt; </description>

      <description>David, I just came across your message.  I can make a connection on the Motley side.  Mary Motley married Charlie Butler.  They had Charlie, Jr.  Mary Motley is the daughter of Sue Motley.  My great grandfather is John Motley, who is Sue Motley son.  I think there were two other brothers, Hilliard and Fletcher.  I have done some research on the Butler-Motley connection.  Charlie Butler, Jr. died around 1984 here in Prattville.  I am also in direct contact with Charlie, Jr's family who lives here in Prattville. Please respond so we can share information. </description>

      <description>Thanks.  I believe I may have found an additional daughter of Daniel Nelson.  Martha E J Wilson, listed in the earlier will and in the later estate papers as Martha Harris, wife of Joseph W Harris of Shelby, is possibly the daughter of Jane Nelson and Henry H Wilson who married in Autauga in 1839. Her parents must have died before the first will, so that is why she is mentioned in the will along with her uncles and aunts.  &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;At least that is my current theory!  Does that sound reasonable to anyone else?</description>

They are probably the parents of Robert H Nelson, William D Nelson, John Hardy Nelson, Joanna Nelson, Alford Nelson, and Alexander Nelson.  They show up in the 1850 Autauga census, but there is some question about Thomas' age.  It is smudged.  Nelly is living with son Robert and his family in 1860 in Autauga.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I found the Thomas Nelson who lives in Geneva Alabama and it appears he also lived at one time (1860 census) in Florida with a different wife and children.  &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Does anyone know anything about this family?       <description>I have a hand-written list of deaths in the Berryville, VA Civil War-era hospital.  One is for L.A. Hall, Co. G, 6th Ala, who died of brain congestion on 15 Jun 1863.  His effects: $6.00 &amp;amp; a letter, were sent by Dr. Kownslar to W. Hall in Autuagaville, AL.  Fro what little I can find, this was Leroy A. Hall who was born c1815.  Hope this will help someone to know where he died.  I have not checked in the Confederate Cemetery in Winchester, VA to see ifd his body was moved there after the war.  If this connects with anyone, let me know.  This roster will be published by the Clarke Co. Hist. Assoc. next year.       <description>William S.Parrish married Louisa H or L Larson on 16 Jan 1848 in Autauga Co.  Supposedly there was a marriage bond per records on Ancestry.com.   Her family listed her as being Louise Lassiter/Lassley on some death records.  She was supposedly b in 1824 NC.  There were several Lassiter families in Autauga Co before 1850 but I cannot find a marriage to a Larson.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Can anyone provide leads to the parents of William S. Parrish and Louisa Lassiter?&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Thanks,</description>

      <description>The Elizabeth Blackwell who married Abraham Chancellor was the daughter of Thoroughgood/Thorogood Blackwell of Autuaga County, AL. This is proven in the Orphan Court Records where the children of Thoroughgood Blackwell were named along with their spouses. There was a Thoroughgood Blackwell who contested Anne (wife of George Blackwell) as the executor of George Blackwell's will in Edgecombe County, NC c. April 1767. I suspect he was a brother of that George Blackwell. I have a copy of this will and yes Thoroughgood Blackwell is not mentioned but I do not believe that a young child age 11 or 12 would have been left out of his father's will. All the census records that I have found regarding Thoroughgood Blackwell show a birth date of no earlier than 1754. I do not believe him to be a son of the elder George Blackwell.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Orphans Court Minutes 1823 - 1842,Autauga County, Alabama&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Special Orphans Court 21 May 1832&lt;br&gt;At this day came Thomas Smith and offered a paper purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of Thoroughgood Blackwell deceased who died in this county and whose place of residence was in the same,at the time of his death,for probate. It is therefore ordered by the court that citations issue to the sheriff commanding him to summon Jesse Cook and his wife Eleanor, Abraham Chancellor and his wife Elizabeth, Abijah Shumake and his wife Dorcas, and Sarah Blackwell. Elizabeth Cook and Pheby Cook the heirs and next of kin of the deceased to appear at the Regular time of the Orphans Court for said county to be held on the fourth Monday in June next to show cause why the said instrument should not be admitted to probate. It further appearing to the court that John Phillips and Pheby his wife are of next of kin of the deceased and that they do not live in the jurisdiction of this court. It is further ordered that publication be made in a paper called the Planters Gazette published in the town of Montgomery for two weeks commanding them to appear at the same time and place. It is further ordered that any party interested may procure subpoenas to compel the attendance of witnesses at the said time.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Regular Orphans Court 25 June 1832&lt;br&gt;And now at this time came Thomas Smith and presented a paper purporting to be a Will of Thoroughgood Blackwell deceased and offered proof that the same was the Last Will and Testament of the said Blackwell. It appearing to the satisfaction of the court that the publication required in the order of the last term on this case was duly made in the Planters Gazette for John Phillips and Pheby his wife to appear at this term of this court and it further appearing that citations were not served upon Dorcas and Mary (?) Blackwell, it is therefore ordered by the court that an (illegible) citations issue commanding them to appear at the Regular term of the Orphans Court to be held the fourth Monday in July next and the cause is continued till that day. It is further ordered that citations issue commanding the sherfii to summon Moses (?) Chancellor and Elizabeth his wife, Abijah Shumake and Dorcas his wife, Jesse Cook and Eleanor his wife, Elizabeth Cook and Pheby Cook to appear on the next regular term of the Orphans Court to be held on the fourth Monday in July next, to show why the said Will should not be admitted to probate. And it is further appearing that the Estate is in danger of being injured for the want of a proper person to take charge thereof. It is further ordered by the court that Thomas Smith be appointed Administrator thereof, until the validity of the said Will be determined, and he having given Bond and Security according to law and taken the oath prescribed by law. It is ordered that letters be issued to him. Ordered that Bond of Thomas Smith as Temporary Administrator an upon the Estate of Thoroughgood Blackwell deceased the sum of Fifteen Thousand Dollars with Benjamin Motley, Etheridge Rogers, and J.D. Gop be received and recorded.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Regular Orphans Court 23 July 1832&lt;br&gt;And now at this day comes the sheriff of ( illegible, maybe a whole sentence illegible here, document torn ) in summons of the order of said court, excuted upon the parties therein mentioned as by answering to the returns which many fully affects. And then came Abram Chancellor and his wife Elizabeth, Jesse Cook and Eleanor his wife and Abijah Shumake and Dorcas his wife who entered their caveat to the admission of the Will of Thoroughgood Blackwell deceased and certain issue having been joined between the parties, and a jury having been empowered (?) by order of the court from among the bystanders and duly sworn to try the issue joined between the parties upon their consisting of William Burt foreman of the same, and eleven others upon their oath do say that the said Will was duly excuted according to law, that the said Thoroughgood Blackwell at the time of the excution thereof was of sound mind and of disposing memory and that he was not under undue influence of any person. Where upon it is considered by the court here that the said Last Will and Testament be admitted to probate and that letters be ( illegible) issue to Thomas Smith upon giving Bond and Security according to law and complying with the other requisites of the law.  This day came Thomas Smith and presented his Bond as Executor of the Estate of Thoroughgood Blackwell deceased, upon the sum of Ten Thousand Dollars with B.T. Livingston and James Goodson as Securities. Ordered that the same be received and recorded. Ordered that the Executor of the Estate of Thoroughgood Blackwell make out a full and complete Inventory of said Estate. Ordered that said Executor make a return of said Inventory so made as aforesaid to this court within three months. Ordered that Moses Grier, James Fleming, William Whitstone, Benjamin Motley and Joseph Roest be appointed appraisers of the Estate of Thoroughgood Blackwell deceased. Ordered that said Executor make a return of the appraisement to this court within three months. Ordered that sais Executor have leave to sell any part of the personal property he may think proper. Ordered that said Executor make return of said sale in the months. This day came Thomas Smith Special Administrator upon the Estae of Thoroughgood Blackwell deceased and presented an Inventory of said Estate except the Hogs and Cattle, which are not all included. Ordered that the same be received and recorded.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Regular Orphans Court 25 Sept 1832&lt;br&gt;Ordered by the court that notice be given by publication in the Planters Gazette to John Phillips and Pheby his wife to be and appear at a regular Orphans Court to be held in and for the said county on the fourth Monday in November next and show cause if any why the Real Estate belonging to the Estate of Thoroughgood Blackwell deceased should not be sold. This day came Thomas Smith and presented his petition as Executor of the Will of Thoroughgood Blackwell deceased praying for leave to sell the Real Estate of said Estate. It is therefore ordered that citations issue to all the legaltees of siad Estate to come forward at the next term of this court and show cause if any why said Real Estate should not be sold.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Regular Orphans Court 22 October 1832&lt;br&gt;Whereas Elizabeth Cook infant heir of Thoroughgood Blackwell deceased in right of her mother Ann Cook deceased, being over the age of fourteen years this day came in open court and made choice of William Cook as her Guardian it is therefore Ordered that William Cook be appointed Guardian of Elizabeth Cook as aforesaid. Ordered that letters of Guardian issue to William Cook Guardian of Elizabeth Cook infant heir as aforesaid. ( Note: Pheby Cook this same day makes same choice and the procedure is the same) Ordered that the Bond of William Cook, Guardian of Elizabeth Cook in the sum of One Thousand Dollars with Jesse Cook and Abijah Shumake as Securities be received and recorded. Ordered that Charles Booth, Abraham Chancellor, and Abijah Shumake be appointed commissioners to sell West 1/2 of the NW 1/4 of Section 28, Township 18N, Range 15E. The West 1/2 of the SW 1/4 of Section 28, Township 18N, Range 15E. The East 1/2 of the NE 1/4 of Section 29, Township 18N, Range 15E. The East 1/2 of the SW 1/4 of Section 29, Township 18N, Range 15E, and the West 1/2 of the SE 1/4 of Section 29, Township 18N, Range 15E., it being the Real Estate of Thoroughgood Blackwell deceased. The said commissioners to give notice required by law in such cases and a credit until the purchases giving sales and good security and that they make due return thereof to this court on the Monday.       <description>Diane,&lt;br&gt;That is correct. You should go ahead and get one of the male Ellis's tested. We did not have any Booth's in our line tested until Roger Booth. What results that brought!!!&lt;br&gt;The female Mtdna will not help you with Elisha Ellis at all.&lt;br&gt;You need the Y-DNA only. The Mtdna goes back much further than just five or six generations as does the Y-DNA.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Here is an example of MtDNA and who it goes back to....&lt;br&gt;Audrey Lee Crockett - Myself&lt;br&gt;Audrey Lee Booth - My mother&lt;br&gt;Bertha Beatrice Dick - My mother's mother&lt;br&gt;Wyncie Minerva Atkins - My grandmother's mother&lt;br&gt;Sarah Elizabeth Norwood - My great-grandmother's mother and our brickwell...smile...&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Here is an example of Y-DNA and who it goes back to....&lt;br&gt;Stanley Theodore Crockett - My father&lt;br&gt;Jesse Emmet Crockett - My father's father&lt;br&gt;William Henry Crockett - My grandfather's father&lt;br&gt;William Perry Crockett - My great-grandfather's father&lt;br&gt;William Crockett - My great-great grandfather's father&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;My father was tested and he matched Crockett cousins that we already knew he would match. Still, I have hope that one day we will find a Crockett match that will help us out. One day I will have my Mtdna done.</description>

      <description>Thank you Lee.  So if no one else in the line has been tested it wouldn't help me to get this cousin to do it.  What I understood from the site was that if a female did the test they would only go back 5 possibly 6 generations.  Elisha is my 6th generation, so I wouldn't get his father, but like the Y test for men possibly find some other cousin with information.  Is that correct?  If so I would rather just do the test myself. When you mentioned DNA testing that was the first time I had thought about it, so am not really up to speed on it &amp;amp; greatly appreciate your explanation so far.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I think what you have discovered is very exciting &amp;amp; it gives me hope that somehow I might find the parents of Elisha Ellis &amp;amp; Mary Blackwell.  I feel like Mary was related to Thorougood in some way - not her father, but related.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Have you had your DNA tested &amp;amp; what did you discover?&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;</description>

      <description>Hi Diane,&lt;br&gt;If you had a male descendant of Elisha Ellis tested and he matched another male Ellis on the FTDNA site then that could be a good starting place for you. You could contact that person and see if he has any records on the Ellis family that could help you. By itself DNA does not always help but when combined with family, court records, etc. it does help a lot.&lt;br&gt;The male Y-DNA is passed down from father to son and so on down the line. This is how the DNA of men long dead is tested. The female DNA is called mtdna and is passed down from a mother to both sexes of her children but only the daughter can pass it on down. The son can not pass the Mtdna down to his children. Likewise a daughter never receives the Y-DNA from her father.&lt;br&gt;A perfect example of the use of DNA and courthouse records  to identify a family line is that of Thoroughgood Blackwell and John, William Cissaro, and Charles Booth. The DNA match of Roger W. Booth to Abraham Blackwell would have puzzled us without that will and the orphan records for Thoroughgood Blackwell. Now we know that he is our ancestor and that the Booth men were his illegitimate sons. It is really quite exciting and I am not one bit bothered by this at all.&lt;br&gt;I hope this helps and if you have any more questions, please &lt;br&gt;feel free to contact me.</description>

      <description>Diane, have you checked Raleigh Ellis?  There is a will of his (Rolly Ellis) in Autauga, 1847.  He is in the 1840  census (70 - 79), along with Elisha Ellis (30 - 39) and  Wesley Ellis (40 - 49). &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;A Polly Ellis is listed in the Orphan court records 1847.  Could the name be mistaken and actually be Rolly?&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;There is also an Isaac Ellis listed in the commissioner court records in Autauga, 1842.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;R Ellis is listed in the 1830 Autauga Census, 50 - 59 years old.  He is the only Ellis in Autauga.  (unless someone else is indexed wrong)&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I don't know if any of these will help, but I'll keep my eyes open for more possibilities.  If you come up with anything at the Family History Library in Salt Lake let me know and I could look next time I'm there.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;</description>

From what I could make out from the site you recommended it wouldn't go back far enough for me to be tested.  What I don't understand is how they have the DNA from people that died 200 years ago. Booth is a direct descendant of William Cissaro Booth the brother of John and Charles Booth.&lt;br&gt;Yes, that would be great to get your husband's uncle or male Booth cousins to test too. All I know is that the Abraham Blackwell listed on the FTDNA site is the Revolutionary War Patriot and the same man near Thoroughgood Blackwell in the SC census records. I do not have any way of knowing any of the Blackwell male descendants alive today who could test for Thoroughgood Blackwell re his DNA. However, with that said I am sure that they would match my cousin, Roger W. Booth.&lt;br&gt;Your information is what has led me to find the truth. I did not know about those proxies until you posted them. Then I found Virginia Garrison's posting on the proxies. Your question about illegitimacy was what prompted me to research that angle and examine the Booth and Blackwell DNA for matches. The truth was in the wording of the will of Thoroughgood Blackwell but I never put it all together until this week.&lt;br&gt;It is circumstantial evidence combined with the DNA results that lead me to conclude that John, William, and Charles Booth were sons of Thoroughgood Blackwell. I strongly suspect that Thoroughgood was the nephew of Abraham Blackwell. There is an Abraham Blackwell marriage record in Autauga County, AL c. 1835. I also strongly suspect this is a newphew of Thoroughgood Blackwell and maybe a son of the above Abraham Blackwell.&lt;br&gt;Also, note the excerpt from the will of George Blackwell who died in Edgecombe County, NC. He is possibly the father of Abraham Blackwell and the grandfather of Thoroughgood Blackwell. A Thoroughgood Blackwell contested the will but he would have been too young to be our Autuaga County Thoroughgood Blackwell. What if I can get my husband's one remaining Booth uncle (or one of his Booth cousins) to do a DNA test?  Would that help to compare someone from John's lineage to William's and Abraham Blackwell?       <description>Hi Diane,&lt;br&gt;Yes, DNA can definitely help some but it will not help completely unless the person Elisha Ellis' DNA matched had some records on the family.&lt;br&gt;Thoroughgood Blackwell was in Chesterfield District, SC in 1820. So he could not have gotten to Alabama much earlier than Elisha Ellis. Biosketches are not always very accurate. They do have clues that need to be verified with records.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;This is a good place for DNA testing. But the sketch that you sent me that I have also seen many times about my gr gr grandfather, Washington L Ellis, says that his father, Elisha Ellis, came to Autauga County in 1827 &amp;amp; that the Blackwells had come many years before.  So if Thorougood only got to Autauga in 1825 that to me is not many years. Maybe Thorougood got to Autauga long before 1825 or some other Blackwell did or whoever wrote the sketch thought that 2 years was many years.  &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;How about my Elisha Ellis who I don't know who his father is - would DNA help there &amp;amp; if so what should I do to find out?&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I appreciate any help &amp;amp; wish I knew how to solve this myself.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Thank you,&lt;br&gt;Diane   </description>

Maybe that biosketch is right about the Blackwell ancestor in Autauga County, AL.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Regular Orphans Court 25 June 1832&lt;br&gt;And now at this time came Thomas Smith and presented a paper purporting to be a Will of Thoroughgood Blackwell deceased and offered proof that the same was the Last Will and Testament of the said Blackwell. It appearing to the satisfaction of the court that the publication required in the order of the last term on this case was duly made in the Planters Gazette for John Phillips and Pheby his wife to appear at this term of this court and it further appearing that citations were not served upon Dorcas and Mary (?) Blackwell, it is therefore ordered by the court that an (illegible) citations issue commanding them to appear at the Regular term of the Orphans Court to be held the fourth Monday in July next and the cause is continued till that day. It is further ordered that citations issue commanding the sherfii to summon Moses (?) Chancellor and Elizabeth his wife, Abijah Shumake and Dorcas his wife, Jesse Cook and Eleanor his wife, Elizabeth Cook and Pheby Cook to appear on the next regular term of the Orphans Court to be held on the fourth Monday in July next, to show why the said Will should not be admitted to probate. And it is further appearing that the Estate is in danger of being injured for the want of a proper person to take charge thereof. Off hand I know of no other Blackwell in Autauga County that could be her ancestor. Mtdna is pretty useless on the female line as it will not tell you if she was a Blackwell or not. This type DNA comes only from the mother. He was from the Cheraws District which later became Chesterfield, Marlboro, and Darlington Counties, SC. Thoroughgood lived in Chesterfield County, SC. He came to Alabama about 1825 per his first Autauga County, AL land deed.&lt;br&gt;I can think of no one other than Thoroughgood Blackwell who could have been the father of Mary Blackwell.&lt;br&gt;I have no idea which son was her father though as I have not researched Mary Blackwell. Elisha Ellis came to Alabama in 1827, a single man, the Blackwell family having preceded him by many years. Mrs. Mary Ellis was a Methodist in her religious belief, and died in 1885. Elisha Ellis still survives, is a Baptist, and was a farmer until after the close of the late war. Barney Ellis, a brother of Elisha, died in Autauga county about 1845, and another brother, James Edward, joined a company of soldiers that went to Texas in the early struggle for the independence of that state, and was massacred. Grandfather Blackwell was a pioneer of Autauga county, was a farmer, reared a large family and died many years ago. etc.&lt;br&gt;</description>

Y DNA is passed down only from father to son and never from a female. Mtdna is passed down from the mother to both sexes of children but only the daughter can pass the Mtdna down to her children. I am the administrator of the Crockett DNA project on FTDNA and know the fundamentals of DNA.&lt;br&gt;I believe the proxies of Margiana Matilda Booth and Joseph Henry Crawford combined with the will and orphan records for Thorogood Blackwell show clearly and without doubt that John, William and Charles Booth were his illegitimate children. Hence the wording "That John Booth, Charles Booth and William Booth be equal heirs with my lawful children" in his will. I can not see him making mere nephews heirs with his natural children.&lt;br&gt;Abraham, Thorogood, and William Blackwell were in the same area per the 1790, 1810, 1820 SC census records.       <description>That is really interesting. . . Maybe the Booth boys were Thorogood's nephews, raised as sons. . . Children of his sister (Blackwell markers) who married a Booth? &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;One thing I keep going back to is the names of the Booth children:&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;John Booth had Nancy Mary Ann, Charles Ransom, Alfred Monroe, Elizabeth Adeline,  Amanda Louisa, Martha Melvina, William Franklin,  Benjamin John, and Margie Matilda&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;William Booth had Charles D, John L, Nancy B, Matilda,  William,  Walter, Thomas,  Alvin,  George,  Daransilier (Dee), Mary,  &amp;amp; James Franklin.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Charles Booth had Martha, Margaret, James, John, Mary, Charles, &amp;amp; Samuel; and Daniel, Benjamin, Jesse, Elias, Zachary, Joseph, Sarah, &amp;amp; Washington Wilkes. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Nobody had a Thorogood, or a Blackwell, or a Nella, or an Eleanor,  or Dorcus, or Pheobe.  Only one had a George and two had a James, one Ann.  None of the grandchildren had any of these names, either.  I know that isn't proof, but it seems a bit odd. . . &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;There is one name we haven't focused on in Margie's list - Margaret Booth, granddaughter (pretty sure the original didn't say in law, but I need to check).  If Margie is the granddaughter of Margaret Booth, then she would have been John's mother.  Maybe Margaret Blackwell(was there one?)  Notice each family had a Margaret, Margie, or Matilda.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Ahhh, the speculation.  Sure is fun.  I'll find my notes and see what I can find out in those.  If you would like I'll get the original film numbers or copies of the original records and send them to you.</description>

      <description>Chris,&lt;br&gt;You got me thinking along the illegitimate lines regarding John, William and Charles Booth. I started digging. My cousin, Roger W. Booth had his DNA tested. I just now found an Abraham Blackwell on the FTDNA project who matches Roger W. Booth 24 out of 25 markers. This is considered a good match. This Abraham Blackwell is the son of George Blackwell and brother to Thoroughgood Blackwell. It all makes sense to me now about the will saying the Booth men get equal shares with his natural children as they were also his children by it appears Nella Booth. I say Booth as I suspect they took their mother's maiden name for some reason or another. So we are not Booth's by surname but Blackwell's according to the DNA testing.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/booth/results" target="_blank"&gt;http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/booth/results&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Blackwell/default.aspx?section=yresults" target="_blank"&gt;http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Blackwell/default.aspx?s...&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;DNA Results: Only markers DYS458 differ and it is a 24/25 match.&lt;br&gt;B-15	105963	R.W.
