I am descended from Joseph and Mary Ann Edwards and am hoping to discover further information regarding the family. I am looking for the Native American connection and for details regarding their daughter Josephine, born Jan 5, 1854, in Choctaw, AL. She was my great grandmother. She married William Sylvester Jordan and moved to Texas. She died in 1926 in Itasca, Hill County, Texas. William Sylvester died in 1908 in the same area.
I would like to know Mary Ann's maiden name. She was apaprently born in Mississippi.
If my information is correct, Mary Ann married Joseph M. Edwards. His parents apparently were Stephen Edwards, born about 1801 in South Carolina, and his mother was Catherine Edwards (maiden name unknown) who was born in Georgia about 1803.
In the 1850 Census, the family is Stephen (head), Catherine (wife), Joseph (son), Mary A. (daughter in law), and Jas F (grandson).
By the 1860 Census, the family had grown to include: Joseph (head), M.A. (wife), J, S, Joe, SJ, RL, and another unnamed child.
